Bottle. Pours a deep black color with a nice, tan head. Thick, roasted coffee aroma with a hint of vanilla. Very loud taste. Has a vanilla coffee kind of ring to it. Very potent. You can sense the power in the finish. An amazing porter.

2011 or ’12 vintage bomber pulled from the Seal Beach Beachwood BBQ cellar. Thanks to Vito for knowing this was in stock when talking trade. Poured into a tulip. Appearance is deep opaque black with a tall tan head that eaves some patches of lace. We debated which aromas/flavors might have faded in aging and were pleasantly surprised immediately after we started. Aroma is coffee-powered with roast malt, some cocoa, and vanilla (which we though may have faded most, but was still holding its own). No astringency or strong booziness to indicate the 10% abv. Taste is off the charts, like a delicately carbonated vanilla frappuccino. Full bodied, creamy, thick, and filling texture, soft carbonation, a touch of heat and bitterness underlie a sweet finish.

Pours black with lots of great mocha head. Nice cold coffee aromas. Roasted coffee beans too. Taste is fantastic. Lots of great coffee with a nice maltiness to keep things balanced. Certainly not overly sweet and I can’t find the vanilla anywhere in this... but still a great beverage.

3.9 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
Pours a dark brown, thin mocha head, vanishes quickly into very fine lacing. Aroma is of coffee, roasted malt and booze. The coffee is dominant upfront, but the vanilla and caramel undertones work in with the malt sweetness well, muting the booze a bit in the finish. Still, I get a bit of alcohol sting in the tail end. Very good porter, albeit a big one,.

As a fan of imperial stouts but not always porters, this is a great *porter* rather than one of those porters that are good because they more resemble stouts. Has the lighter body of a porter, but there's nothing else light about it. Coffee? Definitely. (Actual coffee beans.) Vanilla? Clearly. (Actual vanilla beans.) Lots of other stuff going on, I'm sure, but I'll leave it with: a truly top-notch beer.

4.3 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
Bottle: Instantly strong notes of coffee and roast permeate the air, as soon as the cap comes off. Dark brown color with a modest tan head. The pour really ramps up the intensity of coffee in the air. Really good roast... the kind of coffee that stands up a spoon and leaves ash behind. Wicked good. Vanilla and milk chocolate come through in the flavor to smooth out the dominant coffee tones… and it works. Still, such a heavy roast and ash are noticeable. I love coffee and vanilla; this pulls them off to near perfection.

Bottle. Pours black with a tan head. Good roasted malty and coffee aroma, vanilla and licorice notes as well. Flavor has layers of coffee, combined with roasted malt, vanilla and cocoa. Very smooth. Bitter finish, long with vanilla and espresso notes. Huge beer.

Really nice beer. Black pour with khaki ring. Smoky and bitter aroma, plenty of roasted coffee as well. Taste has great bitter bite complemented with some dark fruit, dark chocolate sweetness, a little hint if vanilla and burn. Almost tart kick at the end. Oily feel, definitely a sipper. Good stuff
