Two of the worldís oldest beverages join forces to conquer your palate. Victory at Sea embodies the art of masterful brewing by infusing a velvety Imperial Porter with pure vanilla flavor and specially-selected, hand roasted coffee. The addition of cold brewed coffee to the beer lends a subtle roasted flavor to this robust imperial porter, blending perfectly with rich vanilla and caramel undertones. By uniting two San Diego brewing traditions, Caffe Calabria freshly brewed coffee and Ballast Point beer, we have successfully created an artisanal masterpiece.

Pours black with a small light brown head. Aroma of vanilla, toasted nuts, wood, char, dark chocolate and toast. Pretty nice. Flavor is less sweet than this might seems with plenty of dark roasted coffee flavor, vanilla, dirt, dark chocolate, and burnt toast. Finishes with the vanilla becoming initially more pronounced, but then an espresso-like bitterness takes hold. Medium-heavy bodied, moderate alcohol presence, decent mouthfeel (nothing terribly remarkable). Good beer for sure, but I think the bitterness in the finish clashes a bit too much with the initial flavor.

Aroma: intense coffee, vanilla, some chocolate and cacao. Appearance: black, small, creamy, beige head. Taste: light bitter. Palate: vanilla ice cream coming up, sweets intensify, coffee, dark chocolate, toasted malts, very light bitters in the long finish. Overall: incredibly nice Imperial Porter, not too strong, very subtle, extremely complex. Pint at Ballast Point Brewery, San Diego.

Coffee aroma and flavor was off the hook. When it came to the flavor it was chocolate too. This Black beer didnít have much head after being drawn from OíBrienís but I didnít hold that against it.

Holy Java! I can taste the coffee in my colon! Itís like a coffee enema. Itís like Starbucks and Anna Nicole Smith rolled into one. Coffee aroma and flavor was off the hook. When it came to the flavor it was chocolate too. This Black beer didnít have much head after being drawn from OíBrienís but I didnít hold that against it. What a great beer. Wonderful. Is this considered Baltic Porter or does Porter cover it.... Anyway, what a great beer! Did I already say that? Huh must be the 12%... I asked the server for cream and sugar and a cardboard sleeve. I guess I will be here instead of Starbucks tomorrow morning. What a great Beer.

Oh Boii.. Pour pitch black, with a small Khaki head. Aroma has tons of coffee, plenty and plenty of vanilla, some roast, bitter choco, cacao powder. Jeez this is slick. Taste is actually somewhat dry, with very slight sweetness, and a heavy dose of bitterness. Medium ní sticky body, with a fizzy (to the style) carb. Ye!!!

UPDATED: OCT 7, 2014 22 oz bottle, couldnít find a date, but i purchased it about 13 months ago- Pours black with a thin mocha colored head. Aroma is roasted coffee, nice espresso beans, vanilla and roasted malts. The taste is velvety smooth, coffee and vanilla really shine, roasty and delicious, bone dry finish which is interesting. Body is full and carbonation is medium. I was expecting to give this lower than the average, 100/100 is almost unheard of, but this is quite good. Just casually looking at the bottle I noticed a enjoy by date on the bottom of the label, it says 01/02/14, how does a beer of this caliber even have a expiration date? 10 months expired and it tastes fantastic, I donít understand how they date beer sometimes.

Poured from bottle into a pint glass Appearance Ė The beer pours a beautifully deep brown-nearly black color with a huge billowy brown colored head. The head just sits there and persists, very slowly fading over time to leave one fantastic level of streaky lace on the sides of the glass. Smell Ė Oh man there is a whole lotta coffee in this smell. A huge coffee aroma greets the nose with it being accompanied by tons of vanilla and caramel sweetness. Along with these aromas are some very nice roasted malt smells as well as a moderate presence of a cocoa smell. A little bit of a woody aroma and a decent showing of a boozy smell round out the aroma profile, creating a rather sweet, dark and warming smell overall. Quite delicious smelling. Taste Ė The taste begins with tons of dark roasted malt and a sweeter coffee flavor. The sweeter nature of the brew is of a vanilla and caramel nature with just a hint of chocolate mixed within. The sweeter vanilla and caramel actually pick it up as the taste moves onto the end with the vanilla getting quite strong at the end. All the while the coffee also steps it up getting even stronger in flavor toward the end of the taste, and bringing with it a little bit of a more roasted and some more bitter flavors. While the nose displayed quite a boozy nature the taste did not display as much just giving some hints of alcohol. In the end with the mix of flavors one is left with a sweeter and rather coffee heavy roasted flavor to linger on the tongue. Mouthfeel Ė The body of the beer is on the average to slightly thinner side for a 10 % brew with a carbonation level that is on the average side. Overall the feel was rather fitting as it prevented both the boozy flavors and coffee flavors from becoming too overpowering, but while still providing the base for all the complex flavors to be appropriately appreciated. Overall Ė This is a nice coffee loverís imperial porter. Big on coffee with a nice blend of roast, coffee, sweet, and booze. A very nice one to try if you get a chance.

22 oz bottle, poured into a tulip glass. AR: Coffee and roasted malt, not sharp though. AP: Very dark and a bit cloudy. Thick, full head with very small bubbles. Leaves lots of Brussels lace on the glass. T: Strong, but not overpowering, coffee at the start which transforms into a malty, sweet, woody flavor in the finish with some winey character. P: Full mouth feel, not highly carbonated, thick. O: Really, really enjoyed this one. I am aging the other bottle and will see how it changes over a couple of years.
