Two of the world’s oldest beverages join forces to conquer your palate. Victory at Sea embodies the art of masterful brewing by infusing a velvety Imperial Porter with pure vanilla flavor and specially-selected, hand roasted coffee. The addition of cold brewed coffee to the beer lends a subtle roasted flavor to this robust imperial porter, blending perfectly with rich vanilla and caramel undertones. By uniting two San Diego brewing traditions, Caffe Calabria freshly brewed coffee and Ballast Point beer, we have successfully created an artisanal masterpiece.

Pours dark as a starless night with an excellent massive head. Lacing and retention are also excellent. Nice nose of sweet dark chocolate over coffee with strong vanilla notes. Medium body with a slick texture that has creamy aspects, but is not quite there. Above average carbonation with effervescence present from the middle on. The flavor profile is simply a masterpiece - intense, complex and balanced. It begins with a rush of sweet dark chocolate that highlights the vanilla aspects but also has a distinctive caramel presence. As the sweetness fades, coffee becomes evident and the vanilla becomes more note like and the caramel is most noted. The middle is the only detection of roast I encountered, and it is buttressed by hop flavor (rind like) and bitterness. A combination of alcohol, hops and coffee yield a nice puckering effect. The finish is quite smooth and lingers with an abundance of all the previous flavors. It is the most complex finish I’ve had the privilege to experience. The finish is where the 10% alcohol becomes evident as a very slight nice burn at the back of the throat. This one is World Class, the best porter I’ve ever had and it’s rating is second to only FBS. IMHO, this is the best porter in the world.

Bottle 660 ml. Pitch black with tiny beige head. Aroma: amazing vanilla touch, coffee, chocolate, nuts, malt and a tad of alcohol. Awesome mix, but the taste is even more impressive. Robust beer, full bodied. Pleasant warming feeling. Among the best in the style.

Black pour with a brown head. Aroma was very light; coffee, toasted malt, and just a tiny bit of vanilla. Flavor is 10x stronger than aroma, very bold coffee notes and rich dark chocolate with a bit of vanilla at the end.
