4.5 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 10/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 18/20
Poured into a snifter out of a 22oz bomber.
Pours pitch black and reminds me of used motor oil. Not much in the way of a head but the wisps of lacing left on the sides of the glass is truly impressive considering the abv.
The aroma is extremely pleasant and soft. Dark roast coffee and some light hints of caramel. The vanilla is there but it is very subtle, much more so than any other vanilla flavored beer I have had before. Dark chocolate is also mixed in. Sort of reminds me of a mocha coffee drink.
The flavor is even more impressive and substantial than the aroma. The vanilla is extremely subtle and well-integrated becoming most apparent immediately after the sip. Dark roast coffee and vanilla quickly followed by a shot of caramel. Bitterness reminiscent of dark chocolate and espresso followed then by more vanilla and moderate sweetness. Mouthfeeel is on the sticky side and there is a little bit of tannic bitterness on the roof of the mouth.
Overall, an extremely well done coffee vanilla porter. For once the vanilla is not overdone and is perfectly integrated. A sipper for sure but perfect for the cold winter months and one to savor over the course of an evening.

Bottleshare with bratchris - Wow, aroma comes forward heavily with huge madagascar-vanilla, coffee with a huge roasted character. Flavor has panacotta, chocolate with vanillasauce. Dry finish. Extremely well crafted porter.

Len.

4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 17/20
Pour is a black with a large tan head. Aroma is a nice roasted malt, some nuttiness from the coffee and that vanilla is pure bliss. Flavor is just like vanilla and coffee ice cream. It’s thick and rich with different waves of the coffee and the vanilla is off the chain. A nice roast from the coffee or malt is left on the tongue and the alcohol is buried behind all the flavor components. This was a awesome beer. Not just your typical impy stout/porter the additions is what make this beer special.

Flaske. Ok øl men den smager kemisk. Vaniljen og kaffen bakker ikke op om porteren, og man har på fornemmelsen af at det ikke er rigtig vanilje. Alkoholburn til sidst. Ikke god.

UPDATED: JUL 5, 2016 The first time I tried this was in 650ml bottle, and I thougth it was the best beer I’ve ever tried, however, this rating is based upon the 355ml bottle.
I don’t know why the differences between the two tastings were so big. The sweet taste that the vanilla added in the 650ml bottle was gone. Now the taste is full of bitter coffe. Don’t get me wrong, this beer is still great, but it feels like something is amiss. Did they change the recipe? Another type of coffee maybe? Finish is a bit too bitter.
Otherwise it is still great. Heavy roasted malt base with chocolate, coffee and a hint of vanilla. Long finish. Warming, beautiful Imperial Porter.

Pours jet black with a solid 2.5 fingers of khaki head. Great aroma of caramelised coffee bean sweets, burnt sugar, wet wool and deep malty, roasted cereal core coming through on the back of the nose. The palate is medium+ bodied and very well balanced. Not at all too sweet or candied, but with almost a hint of tartness coming through on the early finish which continues on bitter notes on a malty background. Very nice.

4.1 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
Black pour, big beige head. Aroma is very acidic, very roasty coffee with a sweet vanilla nose. Mouthfeel is oily, and slightly thick, with a soft carb. Finish is all super dark, and almost burnt malts. Big roasty notes, loads of cocoa and vanilla and very acidic espresso coffee. Pretty impressive Porter.

4.5 AROMA 10/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 18/20
BIG nose: mega coffee, vanilla, and chocolate. Taste: sweet, creamy coffee, roasted caramel, molasses. Finish: bitter chocolate, vanilla bean, dusty cinnamon. There’s no mistaking this is a high ABV beer, but it doesn’t feel like 10%. (tasted 03/28/16)
