4.3 AROMA 10/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 14/20 Beerenberger (787) - Fischer, Texas, USA - JAN 14, 2013Aroma of rich coffee, chocolate, and roasted malts. An opaque blackish brown pour with a rapidly dissipating tan head and abundant lacing. The taste is amazing! Dark roasted coffee up front, a hoppy bitterness in the middle, and a vanilla chocolatety finish. Full bodied with medium carbonation. Overall, another Ballast Point success!

Pours black, two finger thick khaki head thin lacing that sticks around. Aroma is coffee grounds, chocolate, vanilla up front, sweet vanilla, milk chocolate lingers, no alcohol on the nose at all. Taste is sweet vanilla, milk chocolate, coffee grounds at the front, bitter coffee, dark chocolate and vanilla mid mouth, bitter sweet chocolate and espresso on the finish. Low carbonation, fuller body, bit of alcohol warming and spicyness. Overall real good, very tasty and complex, you should seek this beer out.

You can smell the vanilla, coffee, roasted beans, the alcohol, beautiful deep dark brown color, the taste is bitter chocolate with a hint of sweetness, the bitter after taste is not overpowering just sits there long enough, if you don’t like strong coffee taste, I mean strong, stay away because the first thing you taste when you swallow is coffee. This is one of the best porters I have ever had, love it!
4.2 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 16/20 tmongoose (663) - Louisville, Kentucky, USA - MAY 8, 2013
Bomber shared. Pours almost opaque brown. Very dark with creamy mocha colored head. Deep dark roasted malts, coffee, chocolate and hints of alcohol. The flavor works like this, roasted coffee followed by roasted malts and cocoa powder followed by medium alcohol burn. Silky smooth throughout. Imperial porter by any other name would not be victory at sea. Incredible beer.

Shared in line for GTMW tickets. Ink black, thin mocha head. Huge black coffee, a hint of cream, vanilla bean and chocolate. The coffee is pretty astringent on the palate, and helps to balance the sweetness of the vanilla. Pretty great.

Bottle shared at GTMW line, pours black with a thin tan head and lacing, the aroma has a ton of chocolate mixed in with a the coffee, blends together really well, the flavor has a nice sweet front end with the bitterness of the black coffee in the finish, vanilla also comes through, really enjoyable.

Pours black with tan head. Aroma is roasty coffee with vanilla. Very rich creamy texture, excellent malt profile. Roast coffee with some caramel malt flavors and a vanilla on the back end. Hides the alcohol exceptionally well also. Great beer.

$10 even at Leary’s. Shared with Jblauvs at his Amesbury flat. Going to make this as simplified as I can: I got a healthy amount of black liquorice, molasses, and cold-pressed coffee. Booze and vanilla were quite prominent as well. Smokiness and yeast, by swallow. Yummy. I remember previous years being a little more balanced and sweet, but I like this just fine.
