Two of the world’s oldest beverages join forces to conquer your palate. Victory at Sea embodies the art of masterful brewing by infusing a velvety Imperial Porter with pure vanilla flavor and specially-selected, hand roasted coffee. The addition of cold brewed coffee to the beer lends a subtle roasted flavor to this robust imperial porter, blending perfectly with rich vanilla and caramel undertones. By uniting two San Diego brewing traditions, Caffe Calabria freshly brewed coffee and Ballast Point beer, we have successfully created an artisanal masterpiece.

Poured from bottle into a tulip glass. Pours a very dark brown/black with a thin tan head. Aroma is of dark malts and a hint of coffee. Flavor is coffee and chocolate up front but then finishes with a coffee taste and leaves a lingering vanilla hint. Light carbonation and very good consistency. Not overly syrupy like some other stouts. Leaves the palate very cleanly

Poured from 12oz longneck bottle into a snifter goblet, opaque dark brown colour, reddish when held to the light, with beige foam, short-lived but lots of lace. Exactly what you’d expect from an Imperial Porter with Coffee and Vanilla: roasty, toasty, boozy, hop resin, stone fruit esters, etc. I live the grainbill and coffee aspects okay, but the vanilla is too strong for my taste, and it’s a bit too acidic and alcoholic to consider truly balanced. Full-bodied, moderate carbonation, strong bittersweet aftertaste which remains over-powered by vanilla to the end. Worsened as it warmed. Intense, ballsy, I get why people love it so but I’m sure I’d enjoy the base porter at a tamer abv more.

12 oz bottle poured to wine glass, enjoyed with cheese, mixed nuts, crackers Appearance: dark brown to black appearance in wine glass, deep brownish red color is viewed against the light, minimal head Aroma: strong green coffee bean smell, not like brewing coffee, vanilla is not noticeable Taste: Toasted malt taste, with hint of coffee, dominant lingering alcohol afterwards Overall: Excellent beer, one of the best porters i have had

Bouteille 355ml. Carbonatation moyenne, corps moyen.

12oz bottle from Prairie Trail Hy-Vee, in a Sam Smith pint glass. Aromas of roasted malts and medium-roast coffee and coffee grounds masking undertones of vanilla bean and something curious like wet cement. Massive creamy, bubbly head to match or even surpass a perfectly poured pint of Guinness, dissolving quickly into generous lacing. Short-lived effervescence on the glass. Significantly roastier flavor than aroma, dark-roast coffee and dark chocolate up front, roasty malted barley in the middle with lingering chocolate bitterness and vanilla bean on the finish. Full-bodied and creamy, to all outward appearances the carbonation should be more than sufficient, but the mouthfeel still seems heavy and flat for this type of beer. Would benefit from more carbonation or more vanilla. A nice looking beer and fairly textbook example of a roasty stout. Doesn’t seem as special or unique as its score here had me expecting, and doesn’t benefit from the addition of the vanilla beans as several other brews I’ve reviewed lately. At least the price is competitive.

650ml bottle from Brewdog online shop:
An excellent imperial porter with a strong alcohol kick & lots of flavour, particularly at the end when a warming alcohol kick came through. Well-balanced with nice coffee & vanilla flavours on top of the dark malts & roasted flavours, it was an outstanding beer & one of the better porters I’ve tried so far, although Orkney Porter probably still comes out on top.

Great dark beer with a nice head. The beer is smooth and very flavorful, but no hoppy bitterness.

Svart med ett litet gult skum. Trevlig doft med rostade toner och kallt kaffe. Bra len smak, vaniljen och kaffet ger en fin känsla. Lätt trots hög alkohol, bra porter ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone
