4.6 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 10/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 18/20
UPDATED: FEB 15, 2015 2011 or ?12 vintage bomber pulled from the Seal Beach Beachwood BBQ cellar. Thanks to Vito for knowing this was in stock when talking trade. Poured into a tulip. Appearance is deep opaque black with a tall tan head that eaves some patches of lace. We debated which aromas/flavors might have faded in aging and were pleasantly surprised immediately after we started. Aroma is coffee-powered with roast malt, some cocoa, and vanilla (which we though may have faded most, but was still holding its own). No astringency or strong booziness to indicate the 10% abv. Taste is off the charts, like a delicately carbonated vanilla frappuccino. Full bodied, creamy, thick, and filling texture, soft carbonation, a touch of heat and bitterness underlie a sweet finish.

3.9 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 17/20

4.5 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 18/20
Smell and taste of coffee, cacao, vanilla. Taste also malt, slightly sour, right bitterness. Right texture. Very good beer, just hope it less of vanilla.

3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
22 fl oz bottle, bought at the brewery. My 100th US beer on RB. Nearly black, only reddish edges. More than one finger beige head. Strong coffee on the nose. Taste starts also with strong coffee. In the middle part some low sweetness, little bit vanilla. Increasing alcoholic. Malt in the background. Warming. Strong stuff.

I do not wax on poetically about beer but I do know the quality of a beer once tasted. This review is not about my tastes but reinforces the numbers, which are arbitrary.

Dark black color with thin light brown ring of a head an little lacing. Aroma and flavor have deep chocolatey, cocoa, coffee and vanilla notes. Very smooth but bold, and tasty!

4.3 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 18/20
(Ballast Point Victory at Sea) 650 ml bottle at home, served into a snifter, ABV 10%, bottled Dec. 5 2013
Totally black colour on the body with two fingers of thick, brown head on top, with very good retention.
The coffee aroma is still strong, so is the vanilla, faint roasted malts, but actually coffee at first and vanilla right afterwards dominate the aroma.
Taste has also lots and lots of vanilla, cold coffee, coffee grounds, roasted malts more noteble now, the alcohol pretty well hidden.
Medium body with good carbonation, nicely dry on the palate.
Very good and amazingly easy to drink.

UPDATED: MAY 19, 2016 Love the vanilla coffee that doesn’t taste like vanilla or coffee, but much deeper. This is an instant favorite for me.

From the MacBoost rotter. Dark pour with tan head. Coffee and vanilla hit the nose, some roasted malts, and bread. Taste is a robust coffee/vanilla flavor, very slight bitterness and zero detection of alcohol. Medium mouthful. Great beer served to the masses. Would recommend to others.
