4.6 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 10/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 18/20
2011 or ’12 vintage bomber pulled from the Seal Beach Beachwood BBQ cellar. Thanks to Vito for knowing this was in stock when talking trade. Poured into a tulip. Appearance is deep opaque black with a tall tan head that eaves some patches of lace. We debated which aromas/flavors might have faded in aging and were pleasantly surprised immediately after we started. Aroma is coffee-powered with roast malt, some cocoa, and vanilla (which we though may have faded most, but was still holding its own). No astringency or strong booziness to indicate the 10% abv. Taste is off the charts, like a delicately carbonated vanilla frappuccino. Full bodied, creamy, thick, and filling texture, soft carbonation, a touch of heat and bitterness underlie a sweet finish.

4.2 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
Bottle. Pours black with a brown head! Aroma of raw roasted coffee beans and sick raw bourbon vanilla right on yo face! Also some dark dried fruits, roasted malts, a woody and almost sawdusty feel to it along with some cocoa beans and smooth oatmeal. Taste is sweet and bitter with lots of roasted notes, vanilla, coffee, dark bitter chocolate and smooth oatmeal. Very very balanced and stunning porter!

4.2 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 16/20
Bottle. Pours pitch black with a big, brown frothy head. Aroma is huge vanilla, coffee, strong roast, Sweet berries, and almost some banana. Vanilla ice cream and some wood. Taste is really nice and well balanced! Dry chocolate, vanilla, slightly oatmealish, which rounds the sharp roast off in a great way. Dry coffee in the back. Very exclusive and well balanced.

4.1 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
The Sampler, Brooklyn tap: Pours black with a tan head. Aroma is coffee, and lots of it, plenty of chocolate, vanilla, a bit of roasted malt, and some sugars. Taste is sweet, with plenty of vanilla and minimal bitterness. Lots of chocolate throughout. Alcohol is characteristically well covered by the flavor. Body is not all that heavy. Easy drinking for its size. Dangerous.

3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
On my second and final flight of beers at The Hopping Pig, San Diego on 18th March 2014.
Black, with a lasting beige head, texture was creamy. Aroma of coffee and dark chocolate. The taste follows along with the roasted maltiness imparting chocolate and coffee like in the nose, it is more bitter in the mouth though. The alcohol is noticeable but it adds to the overall enjoyment of this very drinkable brew.

3.8 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20

Medium to low carbonation, fine dry and creamy and a tad light (in a pleasant way). Flavour has stunning coffee, soft smoke, luscious chocolate, light vinious, light vanilla. Great balance. balance

4.4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 18/20
Bottle from mane liquor. Pours pitch black with a firm tan head. Nose is heavy roasted coffee, sweet vanilla and chocolate. Taste is huge. Powerful fresh espresso hit upfront. The sweet vanilla and chocolate notes round it off wonderfully. World class beer.

3.7 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
22 oz. bottle from Slick’s Liquor in Vista. Huge aroma of coffee, chocolate, vanilla, resin, caramel, molasses, and liquorice. Pours black with a thick, creamy, tan head that lasts and leaves chunky lacing. Medium sweet, medium to heavy bitter, has a slight mineral aftertaste, a bit too astringent. The coffee is a big presence, kind of dominates the aroma and flavor. This is a good one occasionally but it’s really aggressive and bitter, a sipper. Full bodied, oily texture, soft carbonation, and long, sweet/bitter finish.

4.2 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 18/20
UPDATED: JUN 4, 2014 Bottle. Very dark brown with a tan head. Heavy malt, chocolate, and sweet coffee aroma. Flavour is a terrific balance of dark malts, wood, vanilla, chocolate, and milk coffee. Starts fairly sweet but leaves off with a reasonable bitterness. A big beer. The last of a few good beers this night, Patrick passed out on the couch halfway through this. Eventually woke up startled and quaffed the rest.
