COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Two of the world’s oldest beverages join forces to conquer your palate. Victory at Sea embodies the art of masterful brewing by infusing a velvety Imperial Porter with pure vanilla flavor and specially-selected, hand roasted coffee. The addition of cold brewed coffee to the beer lends a subtle roasted flavor to this robust imperial porter, blending perfectly with rich vanilla and caramel undertones. By uniting two San Diego brewing traditions, Caffe Calabria freshly brewed coffee and Ballast Point beer, we have successfully created an artisanal masterpiece.

A big bomber pour. Typical appearance of a dark, yummy porter style. A pleasing, warm alcohol aroma, woody smoke, cinnamon, bittersweet chocolate. I really am not getting any coffee hints, but the vanilla comes through with the alcohol....interesting. Taste is slightly more hoppy than some other porters, but good. Definitely some more alcohol on the finish, along with some tootsie roll sweet chocolate flavors. This was an interesting Imperial Porter....at first, I wasn’t to sure about it...just didn’t quite seem to be all there, a bit off kilter maybe. As I sat, enjoyed and rated, it became more enjoyable. My suspicion is that this needs to be served at a bit warmer temp than some other porters for a full experience. "It was darkly rumoured that the butler, regarding him with favour such as that stern man had never shown before to mortal boy, had sometimes mingled porter with his table beer to make him strong." Charles Dickens, Dombey and Son, 1848

Dark brown to black color, darker tan head. Aroma is sweet malt, vanilla and coffee candy. Taste is quite sweet caramel, milk chocolate, some vanilla, roasted coffee beans and vanilla flavored coffee. Full bodied, very well hidden but still noticeable alcohol heat. Very nice.

3/29/2015. From bottle. Black with a thick, creamy tan head. Vanilla aromas with chocolate and roasted malt. Flavors are bitter up front, then lots of coffee, chocolate. Long bitter finish.

Appearance: Black bodied beer with a creamy dark tan head. The head fades shortly and leaves some spots of lacing on the glass.

Aroma: There is a very strong coffee-shop aroma to the beer accompanied by a woody oak-like aroma. I don’t pick up any vanilla aroma.

Taste: It has a very nice dark chocolate flavor with some bitter roasted presence and a strong dark coffee flavor. I don’t pick up any vanilla flavor. There is a notable lack of alcohol flavor which is nice.

Mouthfeel: It is extremely smooth and thick and velvety. The aftertaste gives a good bite of bitterness.

Overall: It’s an excellent porter. I didn’t get any vanilla presence in this beer at all which was disappointing, but ignoring the lack of vanilla still makes it a great coffee porter. I would recommend it and I would pick it up again.

330 bottle from Bierdeluxe.de, Germany. Black color with a thin brown head. Aroma is coffee, some dark chocolate and some raisins. Taste is bitter and phenomenal, especially at warmer temperatures. Coffee, chocolate, vanilla, roasted notes, plums, raisins. Perfect. Aftertaste is mildly bitter and long. Medium to full body with low carbonation.

Pours dark and black but not thick with a 1/2 inch brown and tan head. Aroma is of coffee and cherries. Flavor is dry and crisp dark coffee. Light vanilla and roasty malt. Alcohol is hidden and more crisp and dry than an imp stout. Really tasty and a must try.

Really nice imperial porter. Dark chocolate, amounts of vanilla and dark chocolate. Really tasty. Only bad thing is that its get a little bit to much in the long run. Would love to try the Bourbon aged version.

12 oz bottle: Now available in 6 packs! :) Great looking, with a frothy tan head that leaves lovely lacing and has great retention. Aroma: coffee, dark roasted grains, vanilla and alcohol, in that order. Flavor: initially more subdued coffee allowing a nicely balanced mix, but the coffee does build at the end and build with repeated sipping. Vanilla is subtle.

Poured from bottle at 54F. Pours a dark brown with a 1 finger tan head. Head leaves lots of lacing. Aroma - cocoa nibs, coffee, smoked green chile. Taste - holy cow big; dark chocolate, dark coffee, alcohol and a touch of vanilla. Mouthfeel is rich and a touch oily. It is a bit too big and coffee-centered for me.

Lovely monster. Appearance is a large tan, slow to settle, thick head with lots of lace and and opaque black brown color. Aroma is coffee, vanilla, roast malt, leather, black earth, dank forest, cement. Flavor’s similar to nose, fairly dry, just enough tang and bitter to balance and then a hint of sweet in the finish. Body is just right. Long finish. Nary a hint of strength.
