Ballast Point Wahoo Wheat Beer is created using the same ingredients that were once used in Belgium. Flaked unmalted wheat, oats and malted barley comprise the grain. The unmalted wheat has a high protein content, which causes the beer to be hazy, thus giving it a cloudy, or "white" appearance. A special yeast gives a refreshing tangy flavor that is different from both the sour Weiss beers of Berlin or the banana and clovey Weizens of Bavaria. The mild hopping allows the unique malts to show through and does not conflict with the subtleties of the citrus spicing. This unique citrus character is created by adding a blend of curacao (bitter orange), sweet orange and coriander to the boil. White beers are light and refreshing, yet provide a complex reminder that interesting high quality beer does not have to be bitter and dark. Ballast Point Wahoo Wheat Beer is the perfect beer for sunny San Diego.

On tap at the Old Grove location. Can’t believe I’ve never rated this more common brew. Super unfiltered cloudy pale white/yellow pour with huge sticky white head. Nose is yeasty lemonade. Taste is not as good as nose. Tart odd citrus to not much better. Hints of burnt plastic. Maybe not a good batch.

Found on Topsail Island, NC. Pours a golden orange with a thin lacey white head. Has an aroma of orange peel and coriander. Tastes more like a classic wheat, flavors of banana and bubble gum. Very refreshing on a hot October day!

This is a nice light Belgian style, not sure I’d call it a wit. It is slightly hazed orange in color and unfortunately headless. It’s nose is a bit of pithy citrus rind, bread yeast and a bit of spice. A slight tartness once this is tasted really helps brighten it up. It is slightly sweet but still drinkable. Finishes w/ a touch of citrus zest which lingers on the tongue. This is a nice, easy drinking beer and flavorful enough to be interesting. I like it.

Tap at pizza stone. Very pale hazy straw yellow with white head and lace. Coriander and tangy wheat aroma with hints of tropical fruit. Medium fruity pineapple sweet with wheat tang and fairly dry spicy finish. Light and refreshing. Very good.

On draft at Mudville 9 in Tribeca New York. Gluten haters beware! Huge wheat aroma and flavor. I appreciate the hazy appearance among too many crystal clear summer options. Low ABV with definitive wheat flavor is perfect to quench.

Aroma mellows and smells better once it warms up. Appearance is a nice color hazy and alot of sediment. Taste is suttle and doesnt pop like a crisp wheat should. Finish really nice no bad aftertaste. Overall not a bad beer but not a great one either.
