COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Editor’s Note: Previously known as Yellowtail Pale Ale

The beer that launched Ballast Point. Our original Pale Ale is a rich golden brew, crafted with aromatic German hops and rounded out with a blend of American and Munich malts. While it’s hopped like a lager, we ferment it like an ale to create a smooth, bright taste that has just a hint of fruit and spice. It’s extremely drinkable, like a Kolsch should be, yet complex, like a good craft beer demands.

Not a big fan of this local brew, it feels like homebrew quality with more money.

Pint on draft at a seafood restaurant in San Diego. Light unclear orange in the glass, small foamy white head. More malt and grassy on the nose. Taste starts like a malty Pilsener, grassy and some hop bitterness. Less fruity. Later hints of marzipan in the aftertaste. Okay.

I do not wax on poetically about beer but I do know the quality of a beer once tasted. This review is not about my tastes but reinforces the numbers, which are arbitrary.

12oz bottle from the back of my fridge. Probably a few months old... I think it was a gift from Erin and Dave. Thanks! Pours copper gold with an off white head. Aroma is lemon, light grains, honey, floral. Flavor is honey, light grains, a touch of lemon and some peppery spice. No flaws.

12 Fl. Oz. Bottle. Poured golden, clear with a nice abundant white head and spotty lacing all over. Aroma mostly malts and grain, some lemon and some floral hops. Taste is sweet and pretty much follows the aroma, grain, yeast, malts and some citrus notes. Good beer, very easy to drink, quite enjoyable.
