2.8 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 10/20
Throw in from Foolish Mortal. A light beer, light golden in color with a creamy head that disappears quick. It’s lively and has decent feel and texture, just not my style. A good lawnmower beer.

Rather bitter for a Kölsch and not as round and fruity as one would expect. Watery ending.

On bottle from Dos Altos Pinheiros, São Paolo. Golden color, good foam. Aromas of fruits, light citrus and light hops. Medium body & complexity. Good bitterness and balance. Enjoyable

35,5cl bottle shared by Arve_Christian - thanks. Pours slightly hazy deep golden to orange with a small, white head. Mild malty aroma with notes of dried fruits and hints. Medium sweet with flavour of ripe fruits and notes of malt. Some lightly sour notes present too and a fairly light bitterness. A bit strange, but drinkable enough.

On tap at BGH. Pale ale? Really? More like a lager. BP is usually so on point but this was a let down.

3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 13/20
12 oz bottle served in a pint glass (from Feb. 2011 notes). Small amount of sediment at bottom of the bottle added mid-tasting.
Near clear golden liquid with a substantial amount of fine-grained carbonation visible. Small white head has moderate retention. More lacing than expected, given the head.
Smells like a malty lager, albeit with a fruitiness that is much more characteristic of ales. The flavor is not as expected. Both the aroma and the "pale ale" labeling led me to expect something with much more hop flavor, but there’s only a rather subtle touch of spicy hops in the taste. If I hadn’t tried the beer before seeing the description "crafted in the style of the Kolsch beers of Cologne, Germany" I would have been surprised. This beer is mild in flavor, as per the kolsch style. In fact, I had a quite similar, but perhaps even less flavorful kolsch last weekend at the Pisgah (NC) Brewery.
It has a nice, if near watery, mouthfeel with excellent carbonation and some dryness in the finish. Slightly bitter balance, yet more malt than hop flavor.
O - a highly drinkable and refreshing beer. Plenty flavorful for the kolsch style.

Bottle @ home while brewing: Pours clear golden with white head and medium carbonation. Aroma contains grain, bread, hay, grass and some floral/fruity notes. light body, medium bitterness and dry finish, overall refreshing, but not all that you would expect from a US pale ale.

Bottled. I ordered this at Ruby’s on one of the piers in L.A. near Gardena. I expected a pale ale and got a German style helles beer which I did not know that it had a subtitle called Kölsch style. It reminded me too much of a German sweet malt helles. No so my style. Overall drinkable.
