COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Editor’s Note: Previously known as Yellowtail Pale Ale

The beer that launched Ballast Point. Our original Pale Ale is a rich golden brew, crafted with aromatic German hops and rounded out with a blend of American and Munich malts. While it’s hopped like a lager, we ferment it like an ale to create a smooth, bright taste that has just a hint of fruit and spice. It’s extremely drinkable, like a Kolsch should be, yet complex, like a good craft beer demands.

Love me some Ballast Point Brewing... Pours a hazy gold with a white head. Aroma is pleasant: caramel, bread, some resin, light floral, dough, some alcohol, some banana, hints of smoke and vanilla.Taste is nicely balanced... light body, thin feel, oily feel, average carbonation, slightly bitter finish. I enjoyed this brew paired wit a steak salad and it went along quite nicely. Much better than the Alaskan Summer I had just befo. Keepin’ it gangsta.

pours a slightly murky gold with a medium white head. Aroma is slightly skunky hay/grass. Taste is clean with some slight spice. Hint of lemon citrus. Not much hop presence. Some slight bitter fades in. Not bad.

I get a grainy and slightly sweet under notes from this orangy yellow but clear brew. It's a bit darker than a typical kolsch. It's kinda grainy like normal but it's overly sweet and the bitterness is a bit much in the aftertaste. It's a bit more full bodied than a typical as well. Overall it's not a bad brew but not a typical kolsch.

Low notes of pear like esters and floral hops. Appearance is a clear gold with a white head with average retention. Bready character in the flavor with notes of flowers. Mouthfeel is medium with radium high carbonation. Overall, I wouldn't call it a pale ale. It's a kolsch. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Malty aroma. The taste is slightly fruity. Most watery. Minimal bitterness in the aftertaste that fills the upper part of the mouth briefly. Not at all impressed beer. Follow me @ Kung av öl @ Facebook for more pictures and ratings.

[2/20/15] Draught at Ballast Point Old Grove in San Diego. Clear golden. Very mild hoppy aroma with some bready malt. Sweetish flavor with bready malt, mild floral and citric hops, a fruity touch and a slightly bitterish finish. rather light-bodied.

Pours two fingers of foamy head on a clear light golden body. The aroma is mild honey and grain. The taste is moderately bitter to start, then mellow malt to finish. Nice. The texture is crisp and fizzy. Nice and balanced.

330 ml bottle. Good smell, but almost imperceptible! Appearance? meh. Bitter taste, very malty. I always have loved the Ballast Point packaging, I can even say that they’re my favorite. Mikkeller bottles are nice has well, but they’re too hipster. Ballast Point is something that the boat guy from "Jaws" would drink.

From the 12 fl. oz. bottle. Yellow pour leading up to a short-lived white fizzy head. Good carbonation. The aroma is mildly grainy and cleanly hopped. Grassy. Muted. The body is about medium and creamy. The taste has a nice balance of pale malts and grassy hops. It is a pretty straight forward, highly drinkable Kolsch.
