Commercial Description:
It is made very much like a pilsner, except that it is fermented at warm temperatures with ale yeast. It is then lagered like a pilsner. It tastes very much like a pils, except for the subdued fruitiness of the ale yeast, the tang of the wheat (in some), and the lack of lager-like sulfur aromas.

So where can you taste a Kolsch? There are no Kolsches being imported into the United States. So you could fly to Cologne. A better idea is to come to Ballast Point Brewing Company and try our Yellowtail Pale Ale Kolsch. We make it with 5% Wheat, finish hop it with Liberty and Tettnanger hops, and ferment it with a yeast we borrowed from a brewery in Cologne. So come on in and enjoy a taste of the Rhineland!!

Bottle: Hazy golden with a dense white film that retains well. Biscuity, buttery malt aroma with a light honeyish presence and some subtle flowery hop notes. Crisp light body- a bit sweet in the flavor, especially for the style. Some mildly buttery pale malts and a touch of biscuity character. Some herbal honeysuckle like flowery hops. Simple and not much like the original style. It’s not clean enough and is slightly under-attenuated for the style.

Pours bright gold into a shaker. Soapy white head recedes to hug rim. Sweet and sour caramel aromas. Crisp and fruity with upfront caramel turning quickly to a sour summer fruit finish.

Bottle. Malty sweet vegtable and cookies tasting base with a fresg american citrus hop touch in the finish. Kind of reminds me of the refreshing golden ales that Harviestoun produces. Nice american version of the Kölsch-style. Simple, elegant and unique.

Bottle at Oliver Twist, Stockholm. An interesting cross over between a lager and APA. Nice pilsner background with refreshing american hops. Well balanced

Pour is a hazy yellow with a small white head. Aroma is kinda citrus and grain. Deffinatly no hops show up. Flavor is again a little citrus, grain with an ever small hop profile. It says pale ale on the bottle and kolsch on here and i agree this is more a kolsch, an average one at best.

12 oz bottle. Orange-golden pour with a medium fizzy white head. Aroma of grass and floral hops. Thin, almost watery body. Sharp taste of malt and floral hops with a slightly stale grainy finish. Average pale.

Pours a hazy yellow. Crisp fruity and herbal aroma. Grassy malt smell in the background. Taste is fruit, sweet, floral, and crisp hops. Light/medium mouthfeel with decent carbonation. Very drinkable.
