We took the classic English-style ale and, staying true to Balmain, we gave it some guts! The result is the Balmain Original Pale Ale which is richer in both malt flavour and bitterness, yet cleaner and more refreshing than the traditional English variety. It has been designed for the drinking pleasure and enjoyment of beer drinkers and critics alike. A distinctive full flavoured ale, the Balmain Original Pale Ale displays a rich malt character upfront which is derived from a blend of two base and three speciality malts. Used in conjunction the result is a beautiful golden-copper colour with hints of sweet caramel on the palate. Malt is balanced with a mix of 3 complementary Hop varieties that give an assertive yet clean bitterness, along with an aroma providing hints of citrus hue and mild spice notes. The Balmain Original Pale Ale is all natural and cloudy, and at 4.9% ABV, it’s perfect to enjoy on its own or paired with your favourite local dish. Balmain Pale Ale is best enjoyed at 6-8°C to bring out the complexity and balance.

I wasn’t expecting much from this beer, but was pleasantly surprised! Pours very clear golden colour with minimal head. Very subtle hope aroma with a stronger malt aroma coming through. Full malty flavour with a crisp bitterness, and very slight sweet finish. Really nice beer!

330ml bottle into glass. Faint sweet malt nose. Hazy golden beer with solid white creamy head. Many fine bubbles. Robust malt taste with zingy mouthfeel. Finish is mildly citric hop bitterness. Well balanced, easy drinking, good beer.

330mL bottle from local BWS BB 22/01/16 Deep golden body, quite clear with a small white head. Nice aroma; earthy. dried herbal spice, some pine & woodiness, with plenty of cooked orange & marmalade character backed up by a decent measure of biscuity, caramel malts. Medium-full body, moderate carbonation with a bit of chewy malt texture. Body delivers a solid hit of biscuity, toasty, lightly nutty, caramel malts with hop notes of orange marmalade, earthy & woody spices. Moderate bitterness, smooth, reasonably clean finish. Tidy, drinkable beer. Not really what I’d describe as being "English-style" - has some APA qualities to it.

UPDATED: JUN 20, 2015 A surprisingly well crafted and balanced beer. Some sediment inside the bottle neck showing it is naturally brewed, cloudy amber appearance, nice head fairly high carbonation but better after letting it sit a little. Good malt body and a decent amount of bitterness without any sharp edges which makes me want more. No massive hop hit aroma. Trying to find the right words to describe - kind of a mature beer, like an old school no frills V8 that that could school most at the lights, but doesn’t have to, or the silent older bloke at the bar that still pulls the chicks, and could outfight the rest but just sits back calmly smoking on a cigar.

330ml bottle. A hazy amber colour with a fine, mostly lasting off-white head. Good nutty, toasty and biscuity malts with spicy orange and citrus hop characters and earthy yeast complexities. Light to medium body, medium carbonation and finishing with a modest intensity marmalade-styled bitterness of solid length.

A nice clean example of the style that managed to tempt a few friends away from their usual ice-cold lagers during a summer tasting session.

Short head, misty appearance, light aroma, taste is mild but distinct. Clear caramel and citrus flavours. Could be a good session beer.
