COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
We took the classic English-style ale and, staying true to Balmain, we gave it some guts! The result is the Balmain Original Pale Ale which is richer in both malt flavour and bitterness, yet cleaner and more refreshing than the traditional English variety. It has been designed for the drinking pleasure and enjoyment of beer drinkers and critics alike. A distinctive full flavoured ale, the Balmain Original Pale Ale displays a rich malt character upfront which is derived from a blend of two base and three speciality malts. Used in conjunction the result is a beautiful golden-copper colour with hints of sweet caramel on the palate. Malt is balanced with a mix of 3 complementary Hop varieties that give an assertive yet clean bitterness, along with an aroma providing hints of citrus hue and mild spice notes. The Balmain Original Pale Ale is all natural and cloudy, and at 4.9% ABV, it’s perfect to enjoy on its own or paired with your favourite local dish. Balmain Pale Ale is best enjoyed at 6-8°C to bring out the complexity and balance.

another pale ale brewed by people that like the idea of aromatic hops but are too scared of scaring away customers to use more than a miniscule amount of them. the beer has some evidence of malt in aroma and flavour, but is very short and watery on the palate, and the slight hint of citric hops isn’t anywhere near enough to compensate for the flabby sweet crystal malt-heavy aftertaste. some hints of english yeast "minerality". not even "sessionable" cause it’s too sweet, and not very interesting either. although cleanly fermented at least.

330ml bottle. Strong golden amber colour that looks really good in the glass. The head settles very quickly to leave a myriad of scattered white foam. Lots of caramel in the aroma with some butterscotch notes also coming through. Full flavoured in the mouth with just a hint of citrus intermingled with the suble caramel malt flavour. Good texture and mouthfeel with an aftertaste that rewards the palate.

From a 330ml bottle on 16/1/2012. Pours a clearish deep golden, with a small head. The aroma is all malt, which follows through in the taste at the start. There’s strong caramel notes and some toffee as well. There’s quite a bit of sweetness but it’s nicely moderated by some zesty hop bitterness. A very solid brew.

Found this on tap at the Australia Hotel. Poured a nice gold to copper with a reasonable head. Hop aroma is restrained but there is a nice grassiness to it. Lovely malt driven beer, with a firm lasting bitterness. May be a touch overcarbed for an EPA but thats just being fussy. A really good beer, I’d like a few more.

Nice new beer, pours an almost gold colouring, with a thick white head. aroma is of oranges and a slight grassiness. flavour starts with a sweet caramel malt, before moving onto flavours of orange, vanilla and pine. overall, a nice beer tha can easily be enjoyed as a session beer.
