Quack-Duck (3132), Bodensee/Schwarzwald, Germany Dec 9, 2008 2l PET bottle as Slawjanskoye Schankbier. Is this what globalisation is about? Czech beer sold under a Russian name in Russian supermarkets in Germany and Portugal? Good heavens, this is complicated. Anyway, I am glad to find beer from a small Czech brewery just around the corner. Clear amber colour, enormous bubbly head. Rather dark vor a 10° beer. Aroma of malt, roasetd malt, hops and perfumy soap. Soap? Yes, it’s in the flavour, too. Light-bodied with a very shy malty touch and some very intensive bitter hops, combined with a touch of roasred malt and some (very) shy soap flavours. I’m not sure what to think of the beer. On the one hand it’s rather bitter and perfumy, on the other hand it’s quite enjoyable to accompany hearty food like sausages, cheese, gherkins and bread. Ungstrup (14762), Frederiksberg, Denmark Jan 26, 2007 Bottled. An orange beer with a huge off-white head. The aroma is sour, metallic and totalitarian. The flavor is sour from brewing cereal and metallic with a dry end and thin body. bierkoning (5992), La Tropica, Netherlands Dec 12, 2006 Bought in a Russian shop in Nordhorn. Plastic bottle. Light amber color, no head. Flowery sherry aroma with old hops. No carbon, no sparkle. Totally still. Very hoppy flavor, but old hops. Totally oxidated, although the best before date hasn’t passed yet. Papsoe (14642), Frederiksberg, Denmark Aug 1, 2005 (Bottle 50 cl) Nicely fully golden with a very small, white head. Fresh, hoppy nose and some odd - but delicate - aromatic traces of banana (!) Weird indeed for a bottom fermented beer. Light, lightly watery body and the typical Nova Paka sharp bitterness. Not completely in balance. 010705 joergen (8430), Frederiksberg, Denmark Jul 3, 2005 Plastic bottled.
