I think that lagers generally get low ratings because people are looking for complexity etc., and lagers are not about that. Lagers are pure and clean, and that’s it. That’s what they are supposed to be, and that’s all there is. You have to be good to know a good lager. In my opinion a true lager taster has the most refined palate of all. And this one fits the bill just fine. Elladan99 (15), USA Jul 29, 2001 Admiral (524), Schnecksville, Pennsylvania, USA Oct 2, 2002 Quite a reasonable lager, this makes up for my previous bad experience with Russian beer. It’s a picture-perfect gold with a nice head, and the hops come through in a rather Czech way. punkeedo (465), San Antonio, Texas, USA Feb 13, 2005 This truly is a happy beer. Call me crazy, but if you’re gonna give this beer an 11%--go drink something else and send your bottles to me. A very complex, yet subtle brew, this beer is golden with a quickly dissipating white head. It has a very floral nose with a golden strawy taste, mixed with hops and malts. A very nice beer--quite quaffable. I could drink many of these and would, if they were available in Birmingham or Memphis. Great beer! sanmiguel (118), Illinois, USA Mar 23, 2006 Surprisingly good! Well carbonated, no skuky scent (considering the bottle’s best before date was February 2006) the bottle I drank had a smooth, dry malty taste to it. Recommended ice-cold. collegiatebrew (22), Defreestville, New York, USA Mar 8, 2002 Fairly smooth and good taste baseballguy (246), Green Bay, Wisconsin, USA Nov 29, 2001 I’m not much of a lager guy, but I quite fancied this. Light, sweet, zippy, appealing. After their excellent dark, that makes 2 out of 2 for Baltika in my estimation. Hail to our Russian comrades.
