(bottle) pale gold with nice white head. Very little aroma. Flavor is slightly fruity malt with a hint of bitterness. Fairly light bodied.

Light golden color with a diminishing white head. Corn husks and sweet grain aromas. Mild malt and a touch of white grape juice in the flavors. Much like a light malt liquor, but with a little more malt definition.

From the bottle, this presented itself with a monster head, but absolutely zero carbonation. Little aroma, maybe a hint of malt. This is surprisingly easy to drink, though. It’s a nice smooth lager with an oily, bitter finish.

Bottle from Jungle Jim’s. Poured a clear yellow color with an average frothy white head that diminished quickly. Light hoppy resin aroma. Light to medium body with a thin texture and soft carbination. Light bitter sweet flavor with a short finish.

Basic yellow lager color with a rather impressive white head. Boring grainy aroma. Watery flavor with just a hint of malt and a little bit of fruit flavor but only when I belch. Surprisingly the clear bottle is not light struck. Drain pour.

(Bottle 50 cl) Nice, fully golden colour with a creamy, white head. Malty nose. Rather soft and smooth mouthfeel. Malty with some surprisingly fruity notes. A somewhat sticky, sweetish edge indicating brewing cereal. A touch of sulphur. No bitterness. Thanks to Morten O for bringing me this. 070106

The most impressive thing about this beer was the fact that it held up despite being in a clear bottle. Golden with a small white head, aromas were grainy and herbal with milky undertones. Flavor starts sweet and ends bitter, but not terribly excitingly in either case. It is what it is... a Russian pale lager, and you should expect nothing more. (However, finding it was like the Holy Grail for me, completing my search of Baltika 1 through 9.)

Yellow limpid color, clearly and of medium shining. Compact and brittle foam, medium duration. Light and bitterish scent, presents herbaceous and hoppines notes. Lightly watery and overbearing alcoholic taste. Its seems very more fort than 5,3%. Powerful and top heavy.

Head is initially small, fizzy, white, mostly diminishing. Body is clear medium yellow. Aroma is lightly malty (toasted grain), lightly hoppy (flowers). Flavor is moderately sweet, lightly bitter. Finish is lightly sweet, lightly bitter. Light to medium body, watery texture, lively carbonation. This is what a plain old unassuming lager should be like...and I would bet $20 they use Hallertauer hops in this. The honeysuckle flower nose is uncanny, and quite attractive. Clean enough, and I’d almost go as far to call this a Helles. The difference between this and the atrocious pale lagers I just rated (Haagen, Bud Select, and Hurricane HG) is like night and day, just no comparison at all. Not a great beer overall, but there’s absolutely nothing wrong with it and it’s easy to drink.

ClarkVV (3891) - Allston, Massachusetts, USA - JUL 6, 2005
2005 bottle, fresh on the shelves at Colonial Spirits. Pale gold, very clear and bubbly. Thin head of bubbles does not even cover the entire surface. Cornbread and light mineral water, some powder in the nose. No crispness of any kind noted. Flavor is all powdered sugar, lightly sponge-like texture with some stale hops and metal on the end. Huge, obnoxious bubbles make it difficult to drink. Not the wateriest of pale lagers, but just horribly bland. Light wafers, and a hint of some sugar on the end. Very quick fermentation time shows through. Light body. Still getting the stale/bitter character at the end, which is quite unpleasant. Notes of wax/crayons as it warms. Wow, either this went bad, or I don’t know. Not up to this brewery’s usually good standards, IMHO.
