Bought in a supermarket in Kazakhstan. A Carlsberg Kazakhstan beer. This beer has an awful smell but the taste isn’t too bad. You wouldn’t know you were drinking a 5.3% ABV beer as the taste is quite light. Easy to drink but nothing special going on. Not bad for a Baltika but on the grand scale of things a dispointing beer.

Bottle. Grainy malt, herbal hops, with notes of paper and dust in the background. Head is average size, frothy, white with no lacing and is almost fully diminishing. Color is sparkling clear light amber. Flavor starts faintly sweet and light acidic, then finishes slightly acidic and bitter. Palate is light to medium, watery with a lively carbonation. A drinkable, but no big deal Pale Lager.

500ml bottle from SuperValu in Fermanagh, Ireland (£2.29):
Average really, nothing grabbed your attention other than the lack of off-flavours & skunk. Basic with subtle hops & faint sweetness backing up some biscuit malts & grain; nothing special really & nowhere near as good as the brewery’s #6 Porter.

A very pleasant pale lager. Smooth taste, with just enough sweetness to not make it too sweet.

Bottle from Kubus (a decent EE corner shop in Bedford). Light yellow with a decent amount of filtered carbonation. Corn, grass and cardboard aroma. Sweet corn syrupy taste. Messy bitter finish with malt in the aftertaste. Not very good at all.

Crystal clear golden yellow with a fine but small head. Aroma is light caramel with a touch of spice and a little breadiness. Very, very subtle diacetyl / butter which is actually very good at this level. Really full bodied for this style, presumably from the maltose which for me makes it great. Gives it a real full character which actually works very well against the bakcdrop of very light malt, subtle butter and spice. Whilst the flavour has a sense of sweetness the finish is still very crisp and dry. There are a lot of low scores being given to this beer and I can’t understand that. These people must be missing something because this is an excellent lager indeed. Clean, easy, crisp and yet still so characterful. Possibly nay probably my favourite lager.
