COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
A traditional dark beer based on old recipes. "Baltika" brews this beer with the best dark and light malts with the addition of superior hop types and a special strain of yeast. Crystal-clear water and the secret touch of "Baltika"'s brewers make this a beer of unsurpassable quality.
The ingredients are water, caramel malt and burnt roasted malt, maltose syrup and hops. 17°

Because I needed more ratings in March and I needed Russia. Grabbed this at the farmers market. Aroma is rummy. Metallic. Oak. Walnut. Appearance is brown from the bottle. Dark in the glass almost black. Taste is boozy earthy. Rum note. Woody. Balanced. Definitely porter like. Plate is smooth. Medium body. Really this drinks like something barrel aged. Carbonation is a little lower. Smooth on the palate. Booze is balanced. This is a really solid Porter and I’m not just saying that because im afraid a Russia spy will off me if I said otherwise. Not super roasty like a stout. Honestly this is the epitome of what I think of as a Baltic Porter.

Calkiem przyjemny karmelowy aromat. Piana dosc kiepska, szybko opada i niby oblepia szklo, ale jakos tak slabo. W smaku dobre piwo, choc jak na PB troche mu brakuje ciala.

shared by bartlebier - thank you! - and with Hugi @homebrew Feb.; my first Baltic Porter; pumpernickel nose, then hints of wild strawberries and sherry; taste sets on with pumpernickel as well, dissolving into maltiness, mild roast, some chocolate notes, subtle bitterness, well-balanced. A subtle, harmonious beer.

500ml bottle at home. Pours thick, black and with a fizzy head that disappeared quickly. Sweet, malty, toffee aroma, taste has liquorice, malt, caramel, treacle. Most enjoyable

Bottle from Rasputin’s, Ipswich. Pours almost black with a tan colour head. Aroma of roasted malt, coffee, and caramel, quite sweet. Taste less sweet, with a light roasted bitterness. Body medium, texture is slick, average carbonation.

50cl proud&stout emblematic Slavic butilka, this Baltika, - spasiBaris Idiasynkrasia! Surprisingly balanced and well-rounded beer, hiding an expert mix of dark malts chocolate, maltose syrup-induced dark fruit caramels, dry raisins and hop spice (aged/roasted raisin peel) beneath a deep maroon body. Light alcohol, manageable sweetness, pleasant yeast profile, mouthfeel like raisintanned leather.

Intense dark brown colour. Slightly brown and long head. Quite good lacing. Malty aromas: caramel, chocolate and toffee. Also fruity: dark fruits and banana. The later are clearer in mouth. Prune and resins are also perceived in. Qualitatively good aroma but the intensity is a bit poor in mouth (retro-nasal). Sweet taste with a bit acidity. Bitterness is enough to compensate the sweetness. In general the flavour is equilibrated but not very intense. Good carbonation and medium body. The end is dry but not very long. This beer is not very complex and flavour is not very intense for the style but it makes you have a good time.

Bottle at Murphy’s Law. Pours dark with a fast disappearing beige head. Aroma of chocolate syrup, ash, salty licorice, roasted malts. Taste is sweet, roasted malts, licorice, chocolate. Quite creamy mouthfeel. Bit watery in the end, aftertaste of dark chocolate, licorice and roasted malts. Not bad, especially for the price.

From a Russian restaurant in Brighton Beach, Brooklyn, NY, known as Tatiana’s. I asked for Baltika and she asked the type in broken English. I said strong and got this one. Funny/odd way of ordering but why not? Slight aroma of licorice and some toasty malts as well as some light sweetness you wouldn’t expect. Nice and dark color with little light escaping from slight opaqueness but the head is poor. Taste is similar but with some more sweetness. A bit of a dry finish with a hint of alcohol. Nothing too special but nothing off-putting. While I wouldn’t recommend this to a beer lover, it is clearly drinkable and works quite well with the meat and potatoes found way too often in Russian cuisine. It works. I am generally not a fan of porters but I liked this...maybe I just don’t like the bitterness of most of them?
