Neutral nose.
Very black, ok head.
Earthy, slighly sour roasted and smoked malt flavors.
Milky mouthfeel,
coffee and chokolate aftertaste.
4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20 Braudog (4473) - Hampton, Virginia, USA - JUN 18, 2005
A magnificent pour ... with a cascading mountain of a head over a dark brown liquid slighly thinner than motor oil. The aroma is stark ... sweet and sugary. After the nose, I expected the flavors to be more offending. Instead it’s smooth and inviting, lightly sweet, with notes of smoke, yeast, maybe a little coffee.
3 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20 tiggmtl (4467) - Vancouver, British Columbia, CANADA - DEC 17, 2004
Sweet, nutty, marzipan aroma. Dark brown body with ruby-brown highlights. Tan/brown head recedes to cover with some lacing. Mild, roastiness to the sweet flavour with a lasting nutty finish. Creamy and smooth texture but somewhat still and light bodied. Bottle enjoyed with Enkerli and others.
3.6 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20 larsga (4435) - Oslo, NORWAY - NOV 2, 2006
Medium beige head. Very deep dark red, barely translucent body in the middle. Sweet licorice aroma with roasty and faint vanilla aroma notes. Deep, roasty, licorice taste. Clean, oily and smooth, thinnish body, very industrial. Dryish, licorice aftertaste. Somewhat acidic grain. Quite good. (0.5l bottle.)
3.9 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20 muzzlehatch (4425) - Burlington, Vermont, USA - FEB 25, 2004
500 ml bottle. I love the labels on these guys. Black cherry colored, smallish but strong head. Big sweet malty raisin-port-chocolate-caramel nose, not much roasted character. Huge malt character in the flavor, and some smokiness towards the end. I didn't really find this too sweet, it has enough robustness towards the end to keep it from cloying. Just a touch thicker and a little less wine in the front palate would make this perfect, but it's extremely good as is. Seems almost closer to a doppelbock, but I don't care about style adherence when the beer's this good.

Bottle. Black pour with thin white fizzy head. Aroma of chocolate and roasted malt. Sweet malty chocolate taste and sweet finish. Not much elses going on with this one, a fairly one dimensional beer.
3.4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20 goldtwins (4320) - Nesconset, New York, USA - NOV 6, 2007
Poured a clear very dark brown to black color with a creamy beige head. Fruity and roasted malt aroma. Light smoke and licorice. The flavor had notes of dark fruit and short mild caramel. Hints of cocoa. medium body and semi-dry.
3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20 after4ever (4314) - Brier, Washington, USA - AUG 2, 2006
,5L. Pours dark brown with a massive, diminishing tan head. Super-chocolatey nose, with some dust. High-carb medium body (a little fizzy, actually, but it’s come a long way). Chocolatey, roasty, biscuity palate with a very mild floral hop finish--almost free of bitter by pacific northwest standards. Very delicious drinkable beer.
