UPDATED: JUL 21, 2007 Rerate Still a solid all around porter at a great price - $1.99 for a 500 ml bottle. Dark brown, mocha head, chocolate aroma, some olive oil in the back end. Thick mouthfeel. Original 3.8 Kind of grows on you - hard to describe in words. Licorice-like aroma and appearance. Meant to be drunk slow and savored. Full-bodied flavor lasts throughout - improves upon warming.

This black ale poured with a generous tan head and a coffee aroma. There is a substantial roasted malt flavor with some nuts, toffee and a little chocolate. It’s pretty tasty but slightly watery.

Black. Off-white head. Discrete aroma of licorice and coffee. Long lasting favor of burnt coffee and licorice. Sweet. Not fully flavored but ok.

A cross between a dunkel and stout. Very stoutish in appearance, and the aroma + flavor is primarily sweet. Not bad at all for my first russian beer.
3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20 ChainGangGuy (3682) - Canton, Georgia, USA - APR 8, 2008
Appearance: Pours a dark brown body with a thin, beige head.
Smell: Sweetish aroma of molasses, a bit of roast, and a cup of simple syrup.
Taste: Dark malts with a taste of molasses with a bit more sugar added. Some roastiness. Never much in the way of hops or bitterness. Just a touch of astringency in the lightly roasty finish.
Mouthfeel: Medium-bodied. Medium carbonation.
Drinkability: Not the best baltic porter I’ve gulped down, but, for me, it was definitely the best stop on the trip through Baltika Land.

Dark, nearly black, no head, no lacing. It has an aroma of alcohol and roasted malts. Somewhere between a light and medium body. Tastes very sweet and malty, with a tad bit of hop bitterness...coffee flavor, evident alcohol. Not a bad beer, and it's cheap price may get me to buy it again some day.
