(BJCP Class) Wow my First Russian Beer. Strong molasses aroma and taste. The strong Alcohol also was very present. The overall aroma was very reminiscent of a Strong Ale. Lots of fruity esters this was a very good beer. And I hope to share with others this awesome dark Porter from Russia.

500 ml bottle. Pours a very dark brown that lets the slightest amount of light through. The head is two fingers in height with a long retention time due to the active carbonation. Aroma is all malt with roasted, burnt, and caramel aspects. A light chalky dryness as well. Flavor is dominated by roast and caramel. There’s alot of dry chalky astringency on the finish with some alcohol as well. Mouthfeel is on the thinner side with an oily texture and moderate soft carbonation. This was pretty decent, and the best of their offerings. Heavy filtration has taken it’s toll on this though at the same time.

Deep dark brown coloured body with a dense, thick deep brown head and about a 90% opacity for the beer. Aroma of strong raisins, prunes, roasted malt, toffee, a hint of chocolate and a lot of concord grapes to finish. Full-bodied; Dense, thick, luscious milk chocolate flavour with a lot of roasted malt, prunes and strong sweetness behind. Aftertaste shows more of a complex toffee, prune and raisiny flavour with the malt not far behind and a dense full flavour even in the back of the palate. Overall, a nice rich baltic that shows off the style fairly well - if not, actually a bit too sweet. I sampled this 500 mL bottle given to me by a hockey teammate (from Russia) sampled at home in Washington on 24-September-2011. Date on Bottle - 19 September 2010, so just about one year old.

Bottle: Aroma is mostly chocolate malt and light hops. Has a kind of syrupy smell to it as well. Pours a dark brown, virtually black, with a decent tan head. Fair retention. Strong raisin flavor. More so than chocolate or coffee. In order of intensity, it’s probably raisin, chocolate, burnt, then coffee. Alcohol is slightly noticeable. Light coffee flavor and hops come in the finish. Very light coffee aftertaste. You can do so much better in choosing a porter. This beer seems to get a little better as you drink.

Bottle courtesy of Hogtownharry: Poured a dark black color porter with a nice foamy head with good retention. Aroma of light roasted malt and chocolate is very pleasant and enjoyable. Taste is nice mix between roasted malt with some bitterness and some semi-sweet chocolate finish. Body is about average with some adequate carbonation. Very nice for the style overall and some thing I wouldn’t mind trying again.
