3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20 Cavie (3249) - Fort Worth, Texas, USA - MAY 25, 2009
Weak smell for a porter. Small taste as well, little malts with a fading finish. I need more of a Russian kick.
3 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 9/20 unclemattie (3243) - Georgia, USA - SEP 1, 2006
1pint, 9oz. bottle. 7% ABV Black with a bubbley dark tan head. Roasted malt aroma. Uhm, kinda a tangy start, malt sweetness. Finishes in a coffee grinder residue aftertaste. Medium texture, very warming (alc?) The only way this beer scores as high as it does is from the color and smell. After that its waste. Those poor Russians must not know any better...

Had this in Kyrgyzstan this summer. Pours a nice black. Aromas of heavy malts, chocolate and maybe a little fruit?? Bitter chocolate taste with some coffee coming through.

Bottle. Black with a small head that lasts all the way through. Thin bodied with some flavors of bitter hops and dark roasted grains. Nice for an old style baltic porter but nothing to run to the store to buy again.
3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 13/20 hotstuff (3213) - Indiana, USA - JAN 14, 2005
Bottle. Large tan head, sparse lacing, fine-medium sized bubbles, no visible carbonation, opaque, and a black brown hue. Malty, roasty, chocolate, and some caramel in the aroma. Flavor was sweet, malty, roasty and chocolate. Smooth mouthfeel. Medium body.

Pours looking like a coke on steroids, like boom, then settles down: nice head ring. some lacing : Some burnt qualities in taste, slight warmth in this one : A good bitter porter, not as creamy as most but can hit the spot on the right time + day, a russian classic!
4.4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 18/20 FROTHINGSLOSH (3205) - GREENSBURG, Pennsylvania, USA - MAY 17, 2004
UPDATED: AUG 25, 2011 A marvelous beer at a great price point that should have a much higher reputation than it has. A staple of my beer fridge in the winter. +++ Sampled from a 16.9 oz brown bottle this beer pours thick black and oily with a large brown head. The aroma is of sweet chocolate and a touch of roasty malts. . The flavor is smooth and malty with a strong element of baker’s chocolate. Long malty chocolate finish. Fairly full bodied and silky smooth.
3.3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20 phaleslu (3182) - Saint Louis, Missouri, USA - SEP 28, 2009
UPDATED: OCT 21, 2009 Bottle from The Party Source. Pours a dark brown with a small tan head. Aroma of roast, malt, chocolate, dark fruits, sugar, and pinch of coffee grounds. The flavor follows suit, with more sweet malt and some caramel and alcohol. Medium-bodied, very smooth, and slightly syrupy. Roasty on the finish and in the aftertaste, also some alcohol. I tried this a little after the Utenos Porter and this is an improvement. I worried this would be crap after seeing another Baltika beer in a plastic bottle at the store, assuming this was just the big Russian brewer owned by a conglomerate; the last part may be true, but this was not bad at all. I’d go with an Okocim Porter over this, though.
