COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
A traditional dark beer based on old recipes. "Baltika" brews this beer with the best dark and light malts with the addition of superior hop types and a special strain of yeast. Crystal-clear water and the secret touch of "Baltika"'s brewers make this a beer of unsurpassable quality.
The ingredients are water, caramel malt and burnt roasted malt, maltose syrup and hops. 17°

bottle 04.04.06. pours black...dry malt, molasses and vanilla aromas. flavor is super rich and creamy, almost milk stout like. big molasses flavor and a strangely pleasing rye bread sourness. it has a nice bitterness and nutty/woody aftertastes. don’t know if the sour is the secret ingredient or if the bottle is skunked. i’ll have to drink more and conduct some tests back at the lab...

16.9 oz. bottle. Pours a very dark brown, not quite black, with a rich, creamy tan head that lasted until about mid-glass. Light but pleasant aroma of roasted malt, chocolate and alcohol. Slightly sweet flavor of roasted malt, chocolate and caramel followed by some hops bitterness and alcohol. As the beer warms, the alcohol flavor becomes quite strong and really overwhelms this beer. A bit thin with a surprisingly strong alcohol burn for a beer with 7% abv. This is a style I typically enjoy, however, this beer came up short.

Pours a dark copper brown and sits black in the glass. Two fingers of creamy mocha tan head. Nose is chocolaty with a mild sweetness, lightly floral hop character. Flavor is bitter chocolate and old coffee.

Ya gotta love how Baltika numbers all of its beers - it allows me to easily remember which ones I’ve had so far (3,4,6 & 9 if your keeping score at home). A strong, fairly sweet porter that perhaps lacks a little complexity. Raisins, yes.

Such an odd size bottle, 25 0z. No initial memorable aroma but it was something. Very dark in my steeler stein, nearly opaque. But this is nearly opaque brown, not black, how interesting. Initial bitterness made me think I was hitting a foriegn stout. No sweetness detected. Much stronger and more intense than your typical porter. Will not by again. Lasting bitter finish. If I didn’t know better, I would think this is from the makers of Lion Stout. Send this back to the USSR.

UPDATED: DEC 10, 2008 [bottle - 500 ml] Dark black pour with a thick tan head. Very opaque. Smells like burnt chocolate and malts with a touch of spice and a bit of hop bitter. The taste begins with a burnt flavor that goes to a smooth malty middle and a slightly dry and cardboardy aftertaste. The alcohol is very warming and apparent. All around decent porter.

Pours very dark brown with a deep red hue and a large brown head. The aroma has ice cream malt, milk chocolate, vanilla and cream. Medium slick body with fairly soft carbonation. The flavor starts lightly sour with milk chocolate, onions and dark caramel. The finish is sharper and has some frutiness. An okay porter.

16.9 oz bottle - Pours black with a two finger head that leaves some lacing. It has a pleasant caramel malt and chocolate aroma. The flavor is of roast caramel malts, a hint of chocolate, and coffee. The body is moderately thick and smooth on the palate. The finish is mildly bitter. The coffee flavor really comes through in the finish. Baltika has made a very tastey porter that I think is underrated here. Recommended.
