Bottle. Pours a dark brown with a little bit of a cola head. Aromas sweet and roasted malt with a little bit of a peat and prune as well. This has a nice mix of earth, nuts, toffee and a little bit of dark fruit across the palate. From time to time a bit of iron or something of the sort comes out... which is the biggest knock that I have. Other than that it is considerably less syrupy and cloying than most Baltics I’ve had. This makes it much more enjoyable for my palate.

Bought this as part of a Baltika gift pack. Appearance: Pitch black with a very small brown head. Aroma: Sweet & nutty, the tiniest amount of smoke with some caramel and chocolate. Flavour: Decent amount of chocolate up front with smoke, nuts and a lasting coffee finish. Such a surprise, for years I’ve been snubbing the Baltika brews and yet all of them have been pretty good and in fact, this one is great.

Probably THE best Baltica in the production line-up. Burnt brown sugar/molasses/dates/smoke. Some decently hopped bitterness on top of the whole thing. Very impressive from a disappointing brewery.

Pours with a very small tight head with a deep brown almost black color. The aroma is very sweet and malty with some molasses and chocolate. The flavor has notes of plum, nuts, berries, and chocolate. The beer is overall pretty sweet but has enough dryness and alcohol to provide the needed balance.

Very dark black body topped by a huge creamy tan head. This beer looks very nice. Sweet malty aroma. The flavor is also sweet and malty with some raisin flavors. The body is big but not creamy, more liks a red wine body. The finish is fairly clean with only some lingering sweetness.
3.3 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20 TimE (1980) - Tokyo, JAPAN - MAY 23, 2010
Very earthy, liquorice, chocolate. Low hops. A bit of soy and treacles. Mouth is not particularly smooth. Warming finish. Decent, but feels like a macro made it, which they did.

So far, probably my favorite Baltika. Aroma has the roastyness that I love, plus there is a hint of anise that gets me going. Appearance is a deep black color with highlights of red around the outside. The flavor is, of course, the best part with a nice molasses, roasty hoppy bite to it that is very clean. Enjoyable and it’s usually a repeat purchase when in stock.

UPDATED: FEB 7, 2007 Pours black with a mostly receding light brown head. Aroma is toffee, molasses, and dark bready malts. Alcohol is not well hidden and the beer has a strange sweetness. Mouthfeel is full bodied with liely carbonation. Finish is a little roasty.
