A Mes rate. Bottle at home thanks to Tashi. Black brown with a thin beige head. Roasty and toasty malt, lots of fruit, some bread, coffee and a little cardboard. Hints of liquorice and leather. Nice sugary finish. Basic but decent.

3.4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20 chriso (7062) - London, Greater London, ENGLAND - SEP 3, 2005
Bottle at GBBF, August 2005. Pretty much pitch black. No head to speak of. Dark chocolate, licorice and dried prunes dominate. Maybe a touch of balsamic vinegar. Sweetish edge, but not too sticky. Rather light bodied. Quite impressed.
3.3 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20 pivnizub (7022) - Bochum, Porúří, GERMANY - MAY 9, 2006
Almost black, slowly diminishing mid-sized "milk-coffee" head; sweet malty (dark malt, roast malt, molasses) and fruity (raisins) aroma with a touch of iron; sweet flasvour in the beginning, switching over to a dryer (malty) taste, ending with a slightly dry, lingering roastmalty/coffeeish finish with a tinge of fruitiness. Warming and complex and pleasant and well drinkable.....

3.3 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20 JoeMcPhee (6835) - Toronto, ON, Ontario, CANADA - APR 7, 2007
Dark brown/black beer with a light brown head. Sweet toffee and milk chocolate aroma. A bit of earthiness and lightly herbal hop aroma as well. The malts are quite bready and sweet smelling. Good body with soft carbonation. The flavour is also slightly sweeet with chocolate and cocoa the most apparent. There is a faintly industrial pale malt aspect lurking in back that is a bit distracting, but the beer is pleasant enough.

Pours a rich dark brown, nearly opaque with a thick tan head. Aroma of mild caramel and chocolate sweetness, with a touch of lager yeast. Starts sweet and syrupy with a nice milk chocolate finish and toffee notes. Smooth, complex, and plenty sweet, a very enjoyable Baltic porter.
3.1 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20 Koelschtrinker (6544) - Köln (Cologne), North Rhine-Westphalia, GERMANY - JUN 21, 2011
