3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 16/20 Sammy (5885) - Toronto, Ontario, CANADA - MAY 28, 2007
Many thanks to Gary, Old Faithful for picking these up in Louisville. True to its porter/imperial stoutish roots, this pours a dark colour with a mocha head. It has above average carbonation and a drop of sourness, all superceded by great balance. There is mocha and fruit in the nose. A medium mouthfeel. A chocolate finish.
4.3 AROMA 10/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20 DocLock (5776) - Lower Pottsgrove, Pennsylvania, USA - MAY 23, 2006
Bottle from Super Saver. I love how Baltika numbers all its beers to make it easier for Russians to know what order to drink them after they get bombed on vodka. Great idea! This one is outstanding. The pour is deep blackish (ruby through light) with a 1-finger tan head. The aroma is huge corn flakey malt and soem cacao powder. One of the maltiest aromas ever, right up there with Fullers LP and Celebrator. The taste is big corn flakey malt up front, with a big palate density and complexity. It tastes like Wheaties dipped in chocolate syrup, although not as sweet. This is one of the betetr porters I’ve yet had, and I’ll be raiding the shelves of this one. Sith Lords and other Dark Side scumbags like me will love this one!
3.2 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20 Ughsmash (5631) - Waukesha, Wisconsin, USA - MAR 11, 2007
Bottled, BB 4.28.07. Poured clear, deeper cola brown with a nice initial cap of caramel head that recedes to a thin layer after a couple minutes. Aroma picked up drier, artificially-sweetened dark chocolates, molasses, some dark fruit, and an overall level of roast near burnt... decent. Flavor began with heavier, almost resiney burnt coffee and molasses malts... dark chocolate and sweetener emerge toward the middle, with a moderate-high level of coffee bitterness... sweet, burnt finish leaves chocolate and mild bitterness. Fills out decently on the palate.. a tad tacky at times. OK brew.

bottle. Clear black colour, medium-size creamy beige head. Aroma of roasted malt. Full-bodied, sweet and malty with flavours of roasetd malt and caramel. Well-balanced, not too sweet, well rounded with a bitter-sweet and lingering finish.

Bottle. Pours opaque with a foamy tan head, mostly lasting. Aroma is dark roasted grainy malt with notes of dark chocolate/cocoa and coffee. Dark, medium bitter and acidic flavor of toast and meal, finish is bitter. Dark bodied and fizzy palate, easy to drink.

Bottle. SR liquors. Pours a dark brown body with a thin head. Aroma is malt, smoke, caramel, and sweet malt. Flavor is that but there is a very thin body thats rather unsatisfying. A nice drying sensation finishes this one off.
3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20 Fin (5483) - Merton, Oxfordshire, England, Oxfordshire, ENGLAND - APR 27, 2006
Bottled had this on a few occasions in St Petersburg early May 05 and have picked this up from the Russian Supermarket on the Cowley Road, Oxford. Dark brown with a slighlty mucky white head, good aroma of chocolate and roasted notes, with chocolate again present in the flavour but also a little bit sweet. A very decent porter and one of the better of the Baltika stable.
