A traditional dark beer based on old recipes. "Baltika" brews this beer with the best dark and light malts with the addition of superior hop types and a special strain of yeast. Crystal-clear water and the secret touch of "Baltika"'s brewers make this a beer of unsurpassable quality.
The ingredients are water, caramel malt and burnt roasted malt, maltose syrup and hops. 17°

Brown pour with medium tan head. Aroma of nuts, some coffee. Flavor was more coffee, some toasted nuts, but finish was a bit watery and metallic which grew the more sips I had.

From a bottle at GBF 2011. Black with medium beige head. Sugary and grainy malt aroma with dark chocolate. Light to meidum bodied, meidum carbonation. Quite sweet with medium bitterness.

Bottle. Pours a dark brown black with a tall frothy beige head. Nose is light but malty. With chocolate, dried fruits, and dough. Lightly bitter chocolate is the first flavor with raisins, malt, grain, and molasses. A smooth creaminess balances out the dry bitterness. Decent baltic porter.

What an amazing Russian brew!! This bad boy pours up a deep dark brown (almost black) body sporting a huge four-finger tan frothy head. Head retention was a good as it stayed with the brew as it reduced down to about a one-finger head. The smell was just as amazing with wisps of dark chocolate, cocoa powder, and something akin to roasted hazelnuts. The flavors just add to the symphony of delight; dark chocolate, cocoa powder (like taking cocoa powder and adding just a tad bit of water to make a paste and eating it!), caramel, warm bread, plums, raisins, a twinge of hops, cloves, and more! This brew is full bodied (but not too thick) and no real detection of alcohol. Definitely not a session brew as this one is made to be savored very slowly as I found the tastes and smells just amassed as the brew slowly warmed up. Something that could easily be enjoyed all year long, I can see this one being especially comforting on those wintry days spent by the fireside.

Pours a dark reddish brown. Almost black with a two finger light brown head. Aroma a bit weak buy with a promise of malt and a bit of alcohol. Taste is roasted malt, a touch of caramel and some roasted malt. Finishes dry with a slight bitter hoppy and roasted note. Quite drinkable.

Bottle. Redbrown beer with a milky cofee brown head. Strange aroma, bubblegum, cough drops, roasted malts, malt syrup, rye bread. Taste is medium sweet, very malty, light light hoppy. Quite long finish.

Tasted at the StL RB gathering. It poured a totally black color with a small tan head. The aroma was sweet roasted malt, caramel and some spices. The taste was sweet and strongly roasted malt with hints of brown sugar.

Bottle date of April 14 2011. Pours dark with a fluffy tan head that completely deflates within 30 seconds. Smells slightly off, thin or watery smelling or something. Mouthfeel does the same trick as the head; seeming pleasantly carbonated but quickly becomes almost flat. Nice flavors of dark malt, coffee, chocolate etc, but with an undertone of alcoholic heat. Also a little watery feeling, just a little thin for 7%.

Pours black with a beige head. Aroma is very nutty with some chocolate undertones. Lighter also. Taste is a kind of bland. Chocolate, nuts, and coffee. While being more balanced between these flavors, all are pretty weak. Aftertaste of chocolate does lasts a little while. But it is an unpleasant sour bitter taste. This one is boring. And the more I think about it and drink it, unpleasant.
