COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
A traditional dark beer based on old recipes. "Baltika" brews this beer with the best dark and light malts with the addition of superior hop types and a special strain of yeast. Crystal-clear water and the secret touch of "Baltika"'s brewers make this a beer of unsurpassable quality.
The ingredients are water, caramel malt and burnt roasted malt, maltose syrup and hops. 17°

One of the best Russian beers out there. BIg, rich, and creamy. Smooth finish with a sweet warm alcohol undercurrent. Lots of roasted malt notes. A great full bodied beer.

Poured a very dark brown with a 2 inch light brown foamy head. The head dropped fairly quickly, but it left a nice bit of lacing that slid down the glass to the new level in the glass after each drink. The aroma was fairly mild and contained hints of dried fruit, prune and alcohol. The beer had a creamy texture and a good amount of alcohol came through in the taste. The flavor also had the dried fruit tastes along with some chocolate and a slight bitterness of coffee. There was a nice malt sweetness that complimented the bitterness and mellowed out together very nicely on the finish. Very good Porter!!

Dark pour, almost black, with a thick tan head. Roasted chocolate malt and syrup aroma, reminds me a little of chocolate chip pancakes. Sweet malty flavor. Medium but somewhat chewy body, I’m impressed, I bought this on a whim for $1.99 to rate a Russian beer, far surpassed my expectations.

Gift bottle. Nice brown colour, small head. Toasty aroma. Tastes toasty and fruity, plus something sweet I couldn’t put my finger on, I guess the caramel. Overall, nice drink, not too exciting, but very pleasant.

Bottle sample at the Hopsnobbery Collective "From Russia With Suds" tasting on 1/2/10. Clear brown pour with a medium beige head. Creamy malt aroma with some roast and a bit of sweet chocolate. Sweet chocolate flavor with some creamy malt and a roasty finish. Very nicely done Baltic Porter.

Bottle, poured cellar temperature in a tall cylinder glass. The colour is dark brown with a slight purple/red hue in the light. It has a thick, foamy, creamy tan head, two inches tall. The aroma is very nice: molasses, raisin, prune, candy sugar, coffee beans, slight piney hops. Mouthfeel is slick, medium in body. There is sweet fruit initially in the flavour, some more prune with fresh dark cherries, moving to dry coffee, dark chocolate with more molasses (though more subtle than in the aroma). There’s some burnt nuts and dark malt with more fruit, mild hops and damp wood. The finish is long and dry with chocolate, coffee and subtle raisin with cherry. It would be wonderful to return to this beer again.

500ml bottle from Grapevine Market in Round Rock. Pours a deep, dark brown body with ruby highlights and a tan head that leaves a bit of lacing. Aroma of chocolate muffins, nuts, roasty, light sweetness and some stone fruits. Flavor is fresh coffee, semi-sweet chocolate, light sweetness and toffee. Medium mouthfeel and body. Nice coffee/bitter-sweet chocolate finish. This was a lot better than expected!

Very light in color for a porter, was surprised that I could see through the beer in the bottle. Something of a sandy/ creamy off-brown head, that quickly dissipated. Smelled of chocolate, toffee, and almost fruit. Taste was similar to Guinness Draught in regards to malt roastiness, but also had a faint pear taste and some citrus notes. Most unusual for a Baltic Porter, but certainly not a bad beer. For the money, $1.99 for a 500ml, it’s actually a pretty good segue beer.
