Bottle. Pours a midnight black with a deep, frothy tan head. The aroma is slightly fruity, with a strong shot of roasted espresso beans. It has a full mouthfeel and a fruity, sweet, molasses, vinous flavor characteristic. It has a warm, sweet finish. Awesome porter.

Dark brown with red highlights and a nice tan head. Aroma is very sweet with vanilla, roasted notes, and wood. Flavor is dark fruit, coffee, bourbon, and chocolate. Feel is thick, powdery, and pleasant. Having been disappointed by some of this brewers other offerings, I find this to be a unique and quality beer.
3.7 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20 Jokes (1453) - Chicago, Illinois, USA - JUL 19, 2003
Pours a very dark brown, nearly black, body with a thick, creamy brown head. The aroma has the obvious chocolate and coffee notes, but with nice quantities of anise and dark fruit. Ripe cherries, raisins, plums, apples, and a slew of others are immeadiately evident. Very smooth and easy to drink. The flavors are not quite as pleasant as the nose might lead one to think. Chocolate and coffee, some of the fruit, the alcohol is a little harsher than I might like. I'm glad I tried it, but I won't be buying this often.

Very nice aroma that is rich, creamy and slightly roasty. Full and malty mouthfeel. Not very complex. Dry and roasty finish. Heary and enjoyable.

Smooth, Nice finish, excellent color. Typical Porter with lots of sweetness, but less of the medicine taste often found in Porters.

UPDATED: FEB 23, 2005 Pours with a black body with just a little bit of dark ruby coming through. A large light tan head tops that black beer. Pears and a hint of fresh tobacco in the aroma. The taste is smoky malt with nuts and some vanilla in the finish. Hints of figs. This gets richer with some coffee as you go through the glass. Creamy mouthfeel.
3.7 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20 Frank (1966) - Chicago, Illinois, USA - FEB 23, 2003
More like a doppelbock than a standard porter. Malty, raisiny sweet aroma. Dark reddish brown color. Head is initially thick but mostly diminishing. Some coffee flavors are present but malt sweetness dominates for the most part. Clean mouthfeel. Almost no hops until they come out in the finish. No complaints about that though. This was meant to be maltcentric and it works out wondefully.
