3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20 tennisjoel (1105) - Rochester, Minnesota, USA - NOV 12, 2005
According to wawood this is the best of the Russian line of Baltika. It’s gotta be better than the #9 which wasn’t impressive, to say the least. Great ring of lacing here. Appearance gets good marks. Brown sugar aroma. Good flavor. Nice and rich toffee and chocolate. Dessert type quality. A little rough around the edges, which seems to be consistent with Russian beers. However, very enjoyable overall.

Bottle. Black with a tan head and a rich malt aroma. The body is heavy with a sweet, smooth malt flavor. The finish is clean and quite refreshing for an inexpensive beer.

3.7 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20 DrBayern (1139) - Morehead City, North Carolina, USA - DEC 16, 2007
UPDATED: JAN 25, 2008 Pours out a dark, but clear, brown under a creamy light tan head. Roasted nut aroma, molasses, and chocolate. No hop derived aromas that I could detect. Medium/full body, light carbonation, nice mouthfeel. Decidedly on the sweet side with caramel maltiness dominating. Still, some spicy bitterness comes on at the finish for balance. I’d like a little more hop character, but this is still a good Baltic.
3.7 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20 Capa (1544) - Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, USA - JUN 11, 2008
Deep brown pour with a large beige head. Roasted malts, molasses, milk, a little vanilla, toffee, and I’m pretty sure I picked up some ham as well. I was a little shocked at how one-sided the flavor turned out to be. Very intense molasses, light roasted malts, and some bittersweet cocoa. A bit thin in the mouth. A nice brew but I wish the flavor had the same qualities of the aroma. Still, quote tasty.

Bottle. Pours dark black red, with tan head. Aroma is coffee, molasses, pine, malt, banana. Flavor is molasses, banana, coffee, malt, slight anise, caramel, chocolate, nutty. Pretty good.

500ml Bottle: Pours a dark ruby brown, very nice rocky tan head that left quickly and left no trace on the glass. Sweet and sour earthy and vegetal aroma with molasses and cardboard. Not sure what to expect at this point. The first sip is quite nice and unique, strongly tasting of cherry cough medicine, which to me is a good thing. Lots of molasses, caramel, cocoa, and a good amount of spicy, bitter hops. Nice, oily mouthfeel.
