Originally reviewed: 1/22/09. Pours an absolute jet black with just a touch of ruby on the edges. Large tan head right off the bat, but this disappates to a thin sheet quickly. No lacing whatsoever. Smells of cherries, wine, some roasty cocoa, and strawberries? Interesting to say the least.
Mouthfeel is smooth and creamy, just how I like my porters. Easily drinkable. 7.0% ABV is masked well, as I feel I could drink plenty of these. The flavor on this one is fairly blah. It’s not bad, but it’s just weak and ho-hum. No bite or aftertaste. Just a nice roasty, nutty, scant chocolately taste. I’ve had better, but at the price ($2.99 for a 19oz.) it’s not a bad buy. Recommend.

smells a bit like copper or is that just me. looks lovely biggest surprise from this beer is that for such a high alcohol content its very well balanced a massive burst of flavors which doesnt stay in the mouth a lovely roasted sweet aftertaste. i dont agree that its weak but for such a strong kick at the start the subtle aftertaste is a bit wierd. strong tastes of coffee, chocolate and alcohol an excellent porter to be had with respect very easy to drink yet keeps itself interesting.

this $2.29 22oz brew was surprisingly decent. thin and a little low on carbonation. cola, syrup, coffee, sugar water. i’m not much of a fan of baltic porters but figured i’d waste $2 to try this one. as usual, this is a little too sweet and sugary for my tastes

Pours almost opaque black with minimal tan head. Aroma is weak, with slight tones of dark fruits. Taste is very sweet and lightly bitter with tones of plum, cherry and some hints of chocolate and coffee. Has a thick feel, creamy, low carbonation with an abrupt finish. Overall it’s a pretty decent beer and it’s cheap. I frequent this one along with the Baltika 4. Cheap, and tasty.

Only two dollars at HEB. See through on the sides, but very good porter for price. After taste is sort of weird but very drinkable.

Bottle pours brown-black with foamy light brown head. Malty . Taste sweet malts, roast, caramel, hint of chocolate. Palate medium-thick, a touch sticky. Mild alcohol presence. Finish prolonged but I hesitate to call it bitter or hoppy, more of a mild burnt roast.
I like it and would drink it again, but there are certainly porters I prefer to this one.
