mikeben (335), Naperville, Illinois, USA Dec 25, 2003 Quite a good representation of the porter style. This is a pretty good company. There wheat is terrific as is this. While Porter is not a style I could drink all the time it has a nice full bodiued taste. It looks and smells right with the Coffee nose. A lot of foam and nice choco-foldgers taste. Though a bit more bitter than I like my beerr in general, porters are usually high quality and this is definitly one of the better ones. Let it warm a bit to let the full flavor out.
daknole (1131), Plantation, Florida, USA Nov 21, 2008 Bottle. Roasty and toasty hits the nose with some yeast and nuttiness. flavor is quite toasty and a bit dry. not half bad, but not amazing. unclemike (426), Ft. Riley, Kansas, USA Nov 20, 2008 Bottle. Moderate roasted malts, grassy hops and doughy yeast aromas up front with ruby port and vanilla in the background. Large, light brown, rocky head with great lacing that hung around for the whole glass, color is black in poor lighting. Flavor starts and finishes moderately sweet. Medium bodied, creamy texture with lively carbonation and a slight metallic finish. A flavorful beer with some really nice aromas.
apshah99 (103), Portland, Oregon, USA Nov 1, 2008 Dark brown pour with thick tan head. Very sweet malty aroma. Sweet taste with dark fruit and caramel malt with a little anise. This is a surprisingly good beer! BeerGestapo (399), Windsor, Pennsylvania, USA Oct 31, 2008 Brewed in Russia !!! Pours a sweet black color with a med dissipating tan head. Aroma of molasses, caramel, figs, and malts. Now the taste is much of the same but with some chocolate notes. The mouthfeel is kind of spritzy and finished on the dry side. Pretty good porter !! kflorence (93), San Diego, California, USA Oct 27, 2008 Bottle, pours black with dissipating tan head. Smells of roasted malts, dark fruits, caramel, alcohol and slight metallic tinge. The taste reminds me of an imperial stout (albeit, a much lighter version) with its dark fruit and licorice flavor up front.
Mouthfeel is smooth and rather light for a beer this dark; the beer has good carbonation and isn’t all that sticky. It finishes with a strong flavor of roasted malts, molasses and dark fruits. There is definitely a slight alcohol kick in the final notes.
The lingering flavor seems to be a mix of dark fruits, caramel, alcohol and licorice. Pretty decent brew for my first baltic porter. I could’ve used a bit more malt presence, but overall pretty tasty.
