blipp (556), Grand Island, New York, USA May 10, 2008 Bottle. Pours dark brown with a tan head. Malty aroma, lightly roasted with just a hint of caramel. Medium body. Flavor is a bit sweet with caramel and brown sugar. Not bad.
DYCSoccer17 (1982), Davis, California, USA Jul 5, 2008 Bottle purchased at BevMo in Vacaville. Kinda surprised I have never rated this. Just realized this after reading grant’s review. Aroma is quite pleasant with a great deal of cocoa, anise, and sugar cane. Quite quaffable. Modestly hazy mahogany-amber body with a medium tan head with adequate lacing. A little sweetness to start, before this becomes more anise-like with some definite underlying choco and coffee tones. A bit musty. Finishes pretty burnt and bitter with a deal of hops. This is pretty good stuff, which is a touch of a surprise. 00cobraR (928), Greensboro, North Carolina, USA Jul 4, 2008 pours out a dark brown color with a small tan head. aroma is malty and choco. flavor was rather sweet and the alcohol showed its face slightly. just wasnt as appealing as i had hoped for MrBeerFanatic (167), jamestown, New York, USA Jul 3, 2008 Pours dark brown with a somewhat fizzy/frothy light brown head. Smells of chocolate and caramel. This one is very sweet, infact I think this is one of the sweetest porters I’v ever had. Has notes of coffee, chocolate, caramel and a hint of burnt malt. I don’t prefer to have my porters this sweet but it was still tasty. Beerman6686 (504), Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, USA Jun 29, 2008 Pours a very dark brown with hardly a head. Aroma is of roasted malts and a little bit of coffee and dark fruits. Flavor is very sweet almost of a dunkel rather than a porter. MaltDawg (180), Richmond, Virginia, USA Jun 28, 2008 1/2 L bottle. Black with a large frothy tan head. Aroma of caramel and roast malts with raisins and molases hints and a touch of alchohol. Flavor follows aroma with an almost candi sugar sweetness. Medium body with moderate carbonation. Finish is somewhat sweet with some roastyness and a bit of alchohol warming. Way sweet for a porter but still rather tasty.
