Foamy head on a clear yellow body. Sweet and heavy hay and alcohol aroma. Also sweet flavor with apples notes and some alcohol but not overwhelming. Actually quite all right for a malt liquor.

1.7 AROMA 4/10 APPEARANCE 2/5 TASTE 3/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 5/20
UPDATED: APR 21, 2004 A clear golden (urine) yellow with a large diminishing white head. Mostly sweet, slightly sour aroma of cereal, honey, and soap with hints of straw and peach. Light-medium watery body with lively carbonation. Flavor is mostly sweet with honey, light bread, pepper and straw coming through. The sweetness is kind of odd and unfamiliar (adjunct related?). Somewhat astringent. Not really offensive, just not good. At least now I will have the 'Malt Liquor' style category filled.

Heh, my first Malt Liquor: Bottle pours a thin color or yellow with a big white head and some lace. The aroma is sweet (corn?). The flavor is very sweet with a cardboard like finish. The palate is fizzy in some ways, but sort of thick in other ways. Overall, I can't really rate to style since I don't know how its supposed to taste. Additionally, I really don't like it.

2 AROMA 4/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 1/5 OVERALL 7/20
At long last m y search for a Russian malt liquor has ended. Straight from the streets of St Petersburg we have Baltika 9. Big foamy white head. Clear yellow body. Aroma is not too bad, no off skunky horrible metallic aromas like most malt liquors. Instead it is slightly grassy and sweet. The flavor is sweet with alcohol coming through. The body is odd, no fizzy mouth feel and somewhat watery. Overall not bad for the style but the palate was a real letdown.

Crystal clear, straw-colored lager with a small, creamy, white head. Good retention. Excellent, weeping lacework.
Floral notes, mocha notes (oddly enough) and hay in the nose. Fairly bland, like most pale lagers, however, there is plenty of alcohol in the flavor as well as some good, pale malts. Well-balanced by the alcohol and hops. Full-bodied with a creamy mouthfeel and fizzy carbonation. Lengthy, dry, alcoholic finish. Much better than expected!

2.5 AROMA 3/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 10/20
Almost a neon-yellow color, with a nice-sized white head. Lots of lacing.
Has a distinct "beer" smell... nothing new here, just the same old smell that's been around since beer was born.
Nice taste... smooth and easy, with a bit of a bitter kick. Not bad at all.
Good, fizzy mouthfeel.
It's pretty drinkable... I have no complaints about drinking this, and would welcome another (but only if someone gave me one).

Bottle: slight malt in the nose. A little past prime? Looks like a fizzy American standard. Highly carbonated - borderline fizzy. Not a lot of flavor. Some malt in the finish. Not bad for what it seems to be - a Russian attempt at an American Standard. I'd drink 2 of these before any one of the real things!

2.3 AROMA 4/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 8/20
Little white head, good carbonation; pale yellow, clear beer. Nose : grain, chalk, sweet malt, cookies. Almondy bitter-sweet taste. Alcohol contributes to the taste. Harsh finish. Medium bodied. Some alcoholburn. Almondy bitterness is a shure sign of young, raw alcohol in spirits. I wonder what it means here. Terribly unrefined.
