A strong lager beer with a taste close to classic lager varieties. The flavor is light and there is a suggestion of malt, together with sweetish notes and mild hops bitterness.
Ingredients: water, light barley malt, maltose syrup and hops.
Produced since 1998. 16.5į

courtesy of Laurent Mousson - clear and pale golden-yellow colour with a chaotic white foam; aroma of grilled almonds and solvant, some hints of pear too; thick and very sweet, full-bodied, long malty sweetish finish with fruity and alcoholic notes - awful

Crystal clear, straw-colored lager with a small, creamy, white head. Good retention. Excellent, weeping lacework. Floral notes, mocha notes (oddly enough) and hay in the nose. Fairly bland, like most pale lagers, however, there is plenty of alcohol in the flavor as well as some good, pale malts. Well-balanced by the alcohol and hops. Full-bodied with a creamy mouthfeel and fizzy carbonation. Lengthy, dry, alcoholic finish. Much better than expected!

1.5L bottle (Little Russian booze shop, Tallinn)
Rich straw colour, brief head. First tasting, very little aroma at all. Fleeting taste of unbleached cardboard, then massive, and I mean utterly massive, wave of fruity esters - peach and apple. Then the booze comes over, almost vodka-ey in its direction and potency. Once that subsides, the cardboardís back again, alas. Finish is a mixture of the tastes. Didnít finish the bottle (well, would you?), so revisited the next morning. More aroma, but still rather nondescript. Esters are less outrageously prominent, and not quite so cardboardy or boozy either (recently brushed my teeth, though). Per style, this is pretty competent, but itís not the most delicate style under the sun, thatís for sure. The 5 for taste might be overly generous, but there really is plenty of beery taste in it, and itís not that rough at all, but the 7 overall is there to counter that generosity, as, hedonistically, itís not something Iíd go out of my way to drink (but it’s not bad, don’t get me wrong). If youíre gonna get wasted, this bottleís a good choice.

Finnally I am done rating these sorry Baltika beers. My tour of 1-9 wasnít all that much fun. I kept waiting for a few to be decent . Only one really was. This one is golden and has a white head. Grainy, malty and sweet. Same flavor proflie....shocker. Move along.

Tasted from a 500 mL bottle purchased in Aurora, Colorado. Very light pale yellow appearance with a weak white head. Sweet Pils aroma thatís slightly skunky with some alcoholic notes. Pretty bland pale malty flavor, though the higher alcohol content isnít obvious. Skunky aftertaste.

Drake (9257) - Free Union, Virginia, USA - JUL 12, 2008
Bottle from Market Street Wine Shop Downtown Charlottesville. Very light and pale orangish yellow with a huge head, but little lacing or retention. Bitter, citrus and grassy aroma. This beer is freaking sweet... high fructose corn syrup kinda sweet. I guess the maltose syrup listed in the ingredients on the bottle is responsible for that. Cloying and overwhelming. Bleh.

Bottle @ home, thanks to a colleague. Clear golden color, decent sized white head that diminishes rapidly. Smell malts, some sweetness and believe it or not peanuts! Taste isnít much better: malts, sweet, and again peanut-flavors. That does not belong in a beer. Fizzy carbonation, thin texture, alcohol clearly present, low body.

Bottle: Pale golden colour, only shortly existing thin white foamy layer; sweet alcoholic malty nose; light malty, mainly sweetish beginning; moderate sweet flavour, sweet-malty ending, only a tinge of bitterness; not so pleasant, rather drab......

500mL at Russia House. Whoa whoa whoa- disgusting. Massive acetone, fusel alcohol, compost/trash, adjuncts, chemicals, some old/cheap sherry. Ultra sweet, cloying all the way. Overly carbonated. So gross.
