2.8 AROMA 4/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 13/20
This was the first russian beer i drink, golden color, grain aroma, sweet flavour, not enough strong for a strong lager.

Poured a nasty yellow so light i really contemplated pouring it out immediately. It looks identical to the pee i took minutes ago, albeit less cloudy. Not much to smell. Not bad for a malt liqour. that’s like saying, it wasn’t the worst diahrea i’ve had. i hate going to the store and "finding" something and thinking "extra lager" is kinda like an imperial lager - i know that doesn’t exist, but SHIT, neither should the #9 Baltika. At least i’m gonna get drunk!

2.1 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 3/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 6/20
Usually beers have ratings this low because they’re virtually tasteless. That’s not the case with this beer. There is plenty of complexity here: hay, banana, pear, nice bitterness. The aroma is actually pretty decent, with good classic lager notes. The problem is this beer is heavy as hell--both in sweetness and alcohol--and totally unbalanced. Lagers should be refreshing. If I want 8% alcohol I will drink a complex Belgian ale. This beer doesn’t work for me.

3.4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20
A plesent surprise for the price. Pours sparkling medium yellow. Complex aroma, cookies, flowers, with leather and apple esters. Flavor starts balanced twards sweet, nice malt flavor, apple overtones, and peppery. Light to medium bodied, watery and creamy, softly carbonated.

1.3 AROMA 3/10 APPEARANCE 2/5 TASTE 3/10 PALATE 1/5 OVERALL 4/20
Bottle: Light brown pour with no head to speak of. Very little carbonization. Scent of fruit and a hint of alcohol. Taste is overpowering of alcohol.

Russia’s version of Bull Ice. 9%. The best thing about this beer is the bottle. 51oz plastic with a screw cap. $2.99 price tag stuck to that. I wish I could get a liver that cheap!

2.6 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 2/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 10/20
Alcoholic beer. Strog presence of alcohol. In the taste and in the aroma. In the other hand, this beer is not bad. Drinkable in small portions.

UPDATED: MAY 26, 2003 "Baltika Extra" was the name on my label. How in the world do they get 8% alcohol content in this "brew"? Well, being that it's malt liquor, they probably just added vodka to beer and called it a night. I'm not impressed. Color is light and smells kinda like corn beer. Boring, with no complexity at all. It's passable, maybe as something that can go along with pizza or something, but that's about it. I'd drink it before other malt swill like Cobra or Magnum.

I bought this a while ago just to try. Golden yellow pour, extremely effervescent, quickly dissipating white head. Definitely not one of my faves.
