probstblueribbon (1967) - Nepean, - DEC 25, 2011
Sample at Seneca Lodge Brewfest. 03DE11.

App.: Deep brown-black, no head. Aroma: Tight, bright black coffee, tangy-nutty, a hint of unpleasant barf. Palate: Medium body, very limited effervescence, a bit astringent. Flav.: Dark-roasted malts, grape gum, somewhat nutty, not terrible, a little odd; dry with limited bitterness and a fairly long mouth-coating finish.

Not as expected. Not sure what was expected though...

A deep dark stout with no head. In aroma, chocolate malt with faint peanut notes. In mouth, a smooth stout with light milk chocolate, a bit of off acidity, salty notes, so-so. On tap at Seneca Lodge Brewfest, Dec. 3 2011.

Growler generously shared at the RBSG grand tasting. Pours a dark chocolate brown. The aroma... holy fuck! It’s Nutter Butter! Ok, so it’s not the exact same thing as described by the title, but it’s awesome! The aroma makes me hungry for a Little Debbie box; pure Nutter Butter. The flavor unfortunately doesn’t match up. Hoppier than I’d want with a touch of Reese’s Pieces. Thin body with a finish of chocolate and burnt hops. Purely for sniffing.

Growler at RBSG Grand Tasting. Pours deep brown with a beige head. Ridiciulous peanut buttery aroma, with some chocolate and lightly roasted malts. Similar flavor, outrageous peanut butter and chocolate. Unique and tastey, though I can’t imagine I could drink a ton of this stuff.

Growler at RBSG. Pours black. Nose is ridiculously amazing Reese’s peanut butter cups and sweet milk chocolate. Taste is the same, but very muted. Mostly bitter chocolate with some peanut butter. Light lactose sourness. Something lacking in the body. I could smell this beer all day though.

Brown black pour with tan head and lace. Aroma is huge peanut butter candy. Flavor is a sour flat chocolate with a peanut butter kicker. Taste is not nearly as good as it smells. thin and watery.

Had at Tap NY. Very interesting beer. The peanut butter taste tends to dominate. It doesn’t taste very beer-like, it’s almost like eating a sandwich. Thick going down. Not that tasty, but points for creativity.

Pouring at TAP NY. Pours a hazed brown to black with a thin beige head. Toast and roast on the nose, light char notes. Sweet roast, spicy jalapeno notes, with a touch of peanut butter, but a bit odd though. Chocolate and toast, with a long bitter finish.

(Rating #3099)
