ABV in between 4.2% and 4.9%. This excellent brew is our flagship beer. It is a heavily hopped pale ale. India Pale Ales originated during the lengthy colonization of India. British servicemen in India expected beer, however, the styles of the time did not survive the long voyage to India. Brewers quickly discovered that hops acted as preservatives in beer. As such, the heavily hopped ales designed to survive the long trips were born – now known as India Pale Ales.

On tap at Banff Ave Brewing, pours a hazy orange with a medium white foamy head. Aroma reveals British hops and some herbal fungal notes. Flavour matches accordingly, with fruity hops, British malt, and again that fungal quality. Not overly pronounced on the hops, but well-enough balanced. Not very inspiring.

UPDATED: JAN 1, 2015 golden amber color. Very floral nose with a touch of tangerine. Thin body, lacks back bone, but drinkable moderate bitter finish. Stepping stone ipa, but enjoyable

I found this to be a pretty weak ipa. It's lacks a lot of hop presence that is expected in an ipa. Was still good I guess I felt a bit mislead. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Draft - Nice fresh grapefruit and some sweet tropical fruit. Cloudy orange with a thick head. Grapefruit and resin with a very muted bitterness. Not bad for a local, but could have a bigger punch. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

UPDATED: SEP 1, 2012 At the brew pub in banff . Pours a light tan opaque color almost like apple cider. Aroma is floral with citrus notes and pine. This also has not much carbonation with flat head. Had time to reflect on this afterward, might have been too harsh. I was expecting more on the hop side to this, but at time was trying to rate whilst surrounded by good looking women. Anyway this deserves a higher rating on this re-rate, I say up the hop content and little higher abv you got a winner.

The pour: a nice warm amber colour with a thin white head. The aroma: a sugary odour, malty sweet caramel, and some spiciness from the hops, a bit of cereal as well. The taste: a nice prolonged bitterness with a medium body. Feels a bit dry in the mouth. The verdict: overall a very nice IPA that highlights the hop without having it overpower the beer.

On draft at the brewpub. Gold/orange in colour with medium carbonation. Aroma are of Centennial hops and light pale malt. The orange-spice of the Centennial hops are strong in the mouth as well, backed by more light pale malts. Light bodied with medium bitterness. Coult be a bit more bitter to translate as more IPA like, but this is a pretty tasty beer as is. Could be Bells Two Hearted’s little brother.

Pint on tap at the brewery was listed at 5.4%ABV on the list of beers on their chalkboard in the bar. Pour was a clear golden color with a small white head which left behind a thin lacing. Light floral hop aroma with a hint of grains. Taste is a modest hoppy bitterness with an light sweetness underneath. Finish is very crisp and mouthfeel is decent. This was a surprisingly good IPA which was my favorite of this brewpub.
