A Mes rate: Cask at the Olde Market Tavern in Altrincham. Straight forward bitter with lots of hoppy citric character but with some very pleasing malty biscuit notes too. Nicely balanced. Decent spicy finish.

Cask (gravity dispense) at the Pigs Ear Beer Festival, London on 6 December 2006. Bright gold colour. Very flat - no condition whatsoever. Light biscuity malt aroma. Some flowery, aromatic hop character in the flavour but not very bitter. There’s a bit of bite on the finish but, overall, it’s a soft, easy-drinking bitter. Solid, but there’s nothing particularly distinctive here.

Generous lacy white head covers the clear blonde shade. Grainy and floral nose takes the simple cereal-maltiness road. Kinda sweet in mouth with just a minimal spicy kick at the rear. Simple and growingly husky finish. Under average in pleasure and drinkability with the absence of dryness.

[CASK: Lass-O-Gowry, Manchester 26/10/06] Reasonable taste and not disliked. Nothing too much to rave about however. Try if you come across it.

Pigs Ear. Nettle and honey. Quite light, pale and flowery. OK. Average in an average but not bland sort of way. Inoffensive and uninteresting.

Cask gravity at Pig’s Ear. Gold colour with no head. Nice hop aroma, bit dull in mouth. Bit of spicey hop on end. OK bitter.

Cask conditioned - gravity dispense - Pigs Ear BF. A dark gold coloured beer with quite a thin aroma. Merely a little citric fruit hint. The taste is well balanced with hops and malt apparent. Acceptable but plain.
