COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Can - Pasteurised. Previously 9.1%.
Award-winning Barley Gold is a hearty, potent and warming strong ale. The colour of deep burnished gold, it’s produced from copious quantities of the finest natural brewing ingredients. Brimful with fruity, malty, bitter-sweet flavours, that are underpinned by the strength derived from a prolonged conditioning period.
This rich complex beer is particularly suitable as a partner to red meat, game and strong cheeses such as Roquefort.

Really nice dark amber colour, very low head though. Round and ruby.Almost no alcoholic aroma, nice malty and hoppy. Some sweetness in flavour and finish. Rather bitter in the aftertaste. Very good!

Can. Amber bronze, good but shortlived white head and moderate condition. Thick aromas of caramel, peardrops, whisky and slight banana notes. Heavily malty in the mouth, which seems to mask the alcohol somewhat. Caramel and peardrops still noticable but with an oakiness developing and a touch of bitter oranges. Finish is sticky and malt y but with some background bitterness to temper the sweetness. Quite pleasant, much to my surprise.

Pastuerised Can. BBE Aug 2004. "Very Strong" it says. And that's what this seems to be about. Nasty, sweet, crude, with a filthy pastuerised cardboard taste. Foul stuff for tramps and idiots.

Golden brown in colour. Aroma is sweet, syrupy malts with a surprising lack of alcohol on the nose. Flavours are sweet, but not sickly, with a warming alcohol burn. Surprisingly decent.

This beer won a Bronze medal in the bi-annual Brewing Industry Internaltional Awards 2002. It has a fruity orange aroma with a warming underlying alchoholic taste. A Full bodied and well rounded barley wine.
