3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20 JorisPPattyn (6724) - Antwerpen, - DEC 17, 2011
Very frothy, yellowish-cream head, over well-carbonated, foxy orange-amber, clear beer. Very "beery’ nose with caramel malts, some dry hops, garden herbs, rainwater, writing ink; aromatic. Bitterish, tangy flavour with some fruity esters, rosehips, and caramel with preciously little sweetness. Again herbal retronasal. Bit slick, even oily, but not very well-bodied. Well-carbonated, and alcohol perceptibel, certainly warming up, with more sweetness, almondy. Strong ale, sure, barley wine... not really. But good.

In a can. Pours a deep golden colour with a decent beige head. Aroma of caramel, alcohol, yeast and sugar. Similar flavours with mild carbonation. Quite bitter and heavy with alcohol fairly present. A little metallic to finish with some rice also. Heavy going.

Bottle 275 ml. A clear amber colour with a medium high, off-white head. An aroma of malt, alcohol and caramel. The taste is medium sweet and medium bitter. A full body, oily texture, soft carbonation and a long finish.
3.8 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20 LucyCorne (14) - SOUTH AFRICA - SEP 15, 2011
A nice barley wine and judged according to BJCP standards. Definite flavour of dried fruit and molasses. Would have liked more mouthfeel for a beer of this size.

330ml can. Pours a very rich golden colour with a thick creamy head of beige foams. Looks really strong with strong caramel malt aroma that is intense and quite nice and a bit surprising really. The frist thing that hits you when you drink it is the big burst of alcohol, it swirls around in your mouth and penetrates to all parts. I did not expect mush from this one as I found it tucked away in the corner of a cold room in a bottleshop, but I was pleasantly surprised.

28th May 2007 Warning! Early amateur rating! Thick palate. Treacly beer. Full on malts with a bitter hop undertone. Quite drinkable though.
2.5 AROMA 3/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 10/20 mojoharper (31) - SOUTH AFRICA - DEC 17, 2010
Rich caramel appearance with a sugary nose, not too complex. Initial taste is burnt caramel with a hops aftertaste that is perhaps the best part of the beer. Overall though, not a session strong ale, and lacks body.

Can. Clear amber pour with a creamy off-white head that lasts ages. Malty aroma has notes of molasses, honey, whisky and oak. Flavour mirrors the aroma with hints of peat and spice. Mouthfeel is light and creamy with low carbonation and a lingering warm, slightly sweet finish. Quite decent strong English ale. Wasn’t too sure what to expect with a canned barley wine but was somewhat pleasantly surprised.

275ml bottle. Pours a deep amber with no head. Aroma is fruity malt and boose. Very sweet. Then there’s some caramel and booze. Moderate bitter finish and lots of carbonation. An alright effort.
