4.6 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 19/20 superquaffer (3) - Bedfordshire, ENGLAND - AUG 21, 2011 does not count
Beautiful slightly nutty bittersweet taste . Doesn’t travel all that well best enjoyed in pub poured pint in Dudley or wolverhampton . Creamy head medium dark brown body excellent mouthfeel with some lacing . Head turns smoky off white as pint goes down . Flavour becomes increasingly bitter . The canned version not a patch on the traditional draught . The bottled version from aldi is ok . It is not as good since marstons took over Bankss brewery but still one of the nicest English bitters . Very underrated
3.8 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20 AndrewC (265) - Canterbury, Kent, ENGLAND - AUG 31, 2010
500ml bottle from Aldi (for 99p). I liked it as soon as I started pouring it. Actually, I liked it just in its bottle. Smells of beer; proper beer; like the kind my Granddad would have drunk. Good harsh, rough, shoe leather hop bite to it that could be mildly unpleasant but isn’t. Bitter nut flavours too. Long leafy, slightly resinous, slightly tart bitter finish. A session brown bitter that’s worthy of a bare board corner boozer in a honest working class town.

Light amber colour with a thin head, malt and fruity caramel aroma, a good citrus hop bitter taste.

Bottle. The most common beer where i live and it has taken me a long time to rate. Avoided doing so because until recently if you wanted to try it
home your only option was a can. The bottle I tried was quite malty with a dry finish.Clear with a very small head and no carbonation. No matter how hard I try to support a very local beer there is no other way to describe this other than average..

Pale looking bitter. Some toasted malt in the aroma. Texture is rather thin and watery but this is an easy to drink, thirst quenching bitter.

50cl bottle. Clear, orange/amber pour with a good white head. Nothing special in the aroma; some malts and fruits. Taste is very malty which leads to a good dry finish with hops. Not bad actually.
