2008-11-08, Cask Conditioned at J.D. Wetherspoon - The Lord Moon of the Mall, London, 6-4-6-3-13=32
Hazy amber color. Nice aroma, a bit hoppy, grassy, maybe manure, fruity in the beginning. Caramel flavor, good round body, strong bitterness. Pleasant without thrills.

2008-11-03, Cask Conditioned at J.D. Wetherspoon - Shakespear’s Head, London, 5-3-4-3-8=23
Amber color; creamy head. It has a good caramel and malt flavor, lighter aroma; unfortunately there is a strong presence of chemicals or cleaning products (without the chemicals, maybe 6-3-7-4-14). Really controversial.

Cask at JDW in Hammersmith during "Spoons Fest in a Day" crawl, 2nd Nov 08. Dark amber with a good lacy head. Decent malt flavour, not too chemical at first but let down by a poor finish and aftertaste.

Cask, The Highcross, Leicester. Bronze with a small white head. Aromas are sweet weetabix malts with raisins. Slightly vinous with fudge and spices. Flavours are sweet biscuit malts with a light roast character. Hints of Autumn fruit with a peppery, dry finish. Grapefruit bitterness on the finish. A decent Winter brew.

Cask handpull at County Hotel Spoons Ashford. Copper colour with thin bubbly beige head. Its a bitter, ok malts, some hop dryness on end, bit of a sting, quite drinkable, good condition. Its a bitter I could drink all day and not be disappointed. Good malt and dryness.

[Cask at Back of Beyond, Reading] Deep orange-amber with a slight white head. Oh, wow - this smells amazing. Deep, rich scents of fruit, malt and spices swirl enticingly above the beer. Its rather a let-down that the flavours are not a patch on the aroma - its a decent, fairly sweet and fruity winter ale. The texture is rather too smooth for my liking - it could do with a few rough edges to hang more flavour on. Funnily enough I might have enjoyed this beer more without the lovely smell - you wouldnt then have had quite the level of disappointment when the taste didnt live up to it.

I took the bus from St Andrews to Dundee and entered the Counting House before noon to participate in Wetherspoons real ale festival. The half pint of this one on cask had a nice, deep amber body with laceworks on the glass. Floral to the nose. Peaches in the taste with a spicy touch, as well as nutty malts. Hop bitterness to the ending [Dundee, 07.11.2008].
