richlikebeer (823), Easton, Pennsylvania, USA Jul 26, 2005 RBSG ’05 - body is a deep brown, almost opaque, with scarlet tones and a cream colored head. aroma was very mild, some roasts and coffee, but nothing very distinctive or strong. flavor was rich with deep roasted coffee and sweet chocolate and vanilla highlights. body was very very smooth and medium to full in terms of thickness. very nice, but alot sweeter than other dry stouts if you are comparing by style. asheft (1374), Marburg, Germany Jul 25, 2005 [bottle at RBSG]
Almost opaque black with a yellowy-red colour at the thin parts of the glass. The foam formed a nice tan ring and an island. Vanilla-bourbon aroma with lots of alcohol and some piney US hops and coffee notes. A roasty bourbon flavour with some vanilla has good bittering from the hops, mostly, and diacetyl. A little burnt at the end. Medium body with low carbonation and almost a clean finish, if it were not for that burnt flavour. Very nice. IPFreely (1470), Lewiston, New York, USA Jul 25, 2005 Very dark, tan head. Lots of milk chocolate, some molasses, mild roast. Medium to full bodied, drink pretty big for only 5%. Very nice. willblake (2160), Belcamp, Maryland, USA Jul 20, 2005 07.08.05 RBSG Dark brown, not quite black, lofty tan head. Plain and dry, some raisin. Some sweet caramel is a surprise. Very nice, not nearly as dry or bitter as expected/hoped. jerc (3861), Toronto, Ontario, Canada Jul 13, 2005 RBSG 2005. Black body, khaki head. (3+) Roasty dark malt aroma carries over to the flavour, surprisingly restrained roast still dominates over incongruously sweet malt. Medium-full bodied. Walt (2289), Chicago, Illinois, USA Jul 13, 2005 Pour was black with a thin dense cocoa colored head...smell was roasty coffee and butter bread...taste was almost like a pastry...sweet and malty with a nice bitter coffee finish...this was a surprising gem!!! mj (4975), Colorado, USA Jul 12, 2005 Brown color with some light at the edges. Toasty, scorching dry malt flavors, has that Irish/dry stout starchy quality down pat. But past that, it’s just another regular stout: old, musty, airy, dry, a little bland. Didn’t stand up to the quality stouts of the night. GonZoBeeR (2156), ste-Eulalie, Quebec, Canada Jul 12, 2005 Updated: Dec 21, 2005Aroma:Coffe,chocolate...
