Dark opaque black color, midsized creamy beige head. Aroma of coffee, licorice and burnt bread. Medium-bodied. Lots of licorice, burned malty flavor. Lots of dark malts, less hops. Semi-sweet. Suprised to see so high points for this.

A: The pour is a dark brown color with a thin tan head and some noticeable carbonation. S: The aroma is primarily of roasted malt with some nice notes of coffee, chocolate, and perhaps even some charcoal. T: The roasted character really comes through in the flavor as well, along with some more coffee and a slight bitterness. M: The body is medium with a moderate to high level of carbonation and a slightly dry finish. D: This was a nice beer and one that I’ve wanted to try for quite some time. I’m lucky to have some more sitting at home.

UPDATED: JUN 10, 2008 re-rate (original 3.6)
Very dark brown colour. Thick light brown head. The aroma is richly nutty and chocolatey, holding a lot of promise. It’s got a full body, very rounded with lots of chocolate, nuts, woody hops and just a hint of roastiness. The finish is quite dry, and with lots of flavour. Highly enjoyable brew.
