I can say with pretty good certainty that this is the best Dry Stout I have had. If Guinness tasted like this I probably never would have branched out to new beers. Pours virtually black with a thick and foamy beige head. Thin lacing. Nice aroma of coffee, chocolate and roasted nuts. Rich and smooth body with a flavorful blend of coffee, cocoa, malt and hops. The finish is bittersweet chocolate and hops. Well done. baobubba (451), Corvallis, Oregon, USA
| 4.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 4/5 | 9/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | Sep 18, 2003 Tart roasted malt aroma reminds me of chocolate covered cherries, and burnt toast. As the thick head quickly collapses to a sheet of fine particles an earthy aroma comes on as does a vinous quality. Slightly sweet with a bit of roast and turning bananas (esters), banana bread?, on the semi-dry finish. Fantastic Stout!!! Eyedrinkale (3209), Astoria, New York, USA

Aromas are rich of vanilla, chocolate and roasted malts. Taste is silky smooth, nutty with chocolate and mellow bitterness. Roasted cappucino flavors mingle with light bitter hops and dried fruits. Perfectly balanced. Boutip (2412), Gatineau, Quebec, Canada
| 4.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 9/10 | 5/5 | 17/20 | Mar 13, 2008 Bottle courtesy of Wickedpete: Poured a deep black color stout with a nice foamy head with good retention and some nice lacing. Aroma of light roasted malt notes with some great black chocolate element. Taste is also dominated by some great roasted notes with some black chocolates notes with what appears to be some lactose. Full creamy body is probably one of the best that I have tasted in ages with a great level of carbonation for the style. I was really impressed by this one and definitely one of the best for this style. rajendra82 (707), Alpharetta, Georgia, USA
| 4.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 9/10 | 4/5 | 18/20 | Nov 29, 2004 Many thanks are due for these bombers obtained in a generous personal exchange with ViveLaChouffe, who vouched for them by saying that he picked them up at the Brewery in June 2004.
The beer poured an impressively inky black with slight brown highlights at the edges. The head was thick and rich, and appropriately colored like the foam on top of an freshly made espresso. The aroma was roasty and sweet. I could detect cocoa, coffee, toffee, and vanilla. The taste was robust, yet smooth. There were flavors of chocolate, caramel, vanilla ice cream, and coffee with hazelnuts, but none was overpowering the others. The aftertaste was dry and a bit grainy, but not harsh. Silky smooth and soothing, this is a very English feeling Dry Stout, and lacks the aggressive hop bite of the modern American versions. I should have no problems finishing the remaining three bombers in the upcoming weeks. danfosha (36), Denver, Colorado, USA

Aroma is light, hinting of molasses and malt. Flavor is coffee, some chocolate, roasted malt, very smooth, barely any bitter. Full bodied beer with a creamy texture , good carbonation. Really good. Poured a clear, very deep burgundy with garnet highlights... short creamy layer of beige head. Roasted cocoa and dark chocolates at the first whiff.. with a wonderful deep espresso and licorice presence wafting through beneath. Delicate and complex flavor profile, showcasing an excellent blend of deeply-roasted dark malts (milkier and dark chocolates, espresso, licorice, and soy).. with some airy and complimentary herbal & oaky bitterness. Dry on the palate with smooth malts across the middle. Long, dry, and roasty finish with a mild herbal bitterness. Excellent! Lothore (276), California, USA
| 4.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 9/10 | 4/5 | 18/20 | Apr 26, 2008 Wasn’t planning on drinking tonight but it’s St Patrick’s day so what the hell.
A- Couldn’t imagine a stout looking much better than this. Pours a dark brown hue with a nice, fluffy, 2.5 finger, brownish head.
S- Smell is deep roasted malts with hints of coffee in the background.
T- I haven’t had a stout that’s impressed me in quite a while but this one is definitely the first (of many hopefully). Very rich, choclatey, hints of coffee, incredibly well balanced.
M- Quite a bit of carbonation, medium viscosity (maybe a bit more viscous than average).
D- I was ready to trash this one as I normally don’t like stouts but I have to say the balance in this one really does it for me. It’s not trying to be too big, just a nice, incredibly balanced, rich stout.
