Commercial Description:
Also chosen as one of the top 10 beers in America for 1999. Inspired by the Bass Harbor Lighthouse, this beer delivers lots of flavor for a light-bodied ale. Rich, roasted malt flavors are subtly accented with aromatic hops, producing a well-balanced English Mild Ale that is not bitter.
Terrific with Maine lobster & seafood.

22oz bomber purchased at Florian’s Market in Auburn, Maine, split with BA CheckMate. Pours a murky brick red with less than a half inch of off-white head that dissipates quickly. Caramel, biscuit, with earthy hops and a slight fruitiness in the aroma, along with a touch of butterscotch. Butterscotch, nut, spice, slightly vinous, earthy and slightly herbal. Medium-bodied with light carbonation. Fairly quaffable overall, my favorite example of the style but a fairly decent beer.

Bottle/12 - Poured a clear darkish amber in color with an almost non-existent head... low carbonation. Aroma is slightly malty, but not sweet. Flavor is slightly sour/vinous with mild hopiness. Some grainy malts. Finish is slightly malty and mildly sour at the end...

Quickly dying head that leaves no lace. Bright golden color and quite clear. Mild aromas of pale grains. Crisp. Crisp, almost a lager. The body is thin and the carbonation is high. The flavor is good for a mild, but I would not describe this as a dark one.

In short: A bland and problematic watery toasted golden ale. To avoid.
How: Bottle 22oz. Consumed fresh a few weeks after I purchased it in Maine
The look: Partially cloudy golden blonde body topped by a very small off-white head
In long: Nose is toasted bread, roasted nuts and something I’d describe as mold/rot. Unsatisfying evasive body. Taste is like taking a bite of dry toasted bread while taking a big sip of water. Also present are some roasted nuts. An off-putting dry earth sensation that seems to be coming from the yeast. Some woody hops. The very active carbonation is almost welcomed since it crushes flavours that are most likely problematic. More problematic than bland. Better than a macro “amber” ale but not by much. I bought a bunch of Bar Harbor Cadillac Mountain Stout and in my rush to I did not realize that one of the bottle was actually Lighthouse. I hate that when I buy something by mistake that’s not just for me. Like when I come back home with extra-large condoms. Although that’s not by mistake, it’s because I find the casher cute.

On tap at the brewery. I had heard some bad reviews around town, but this was very nice. A light ale to be sure, but refreshing and clean. A touch toasty and easy to drink. I only wish more American breweries would embrace the style.

22oz bottle, purchased at the brewery. Labeled "Brew 13". Pours hazy brown, capped with a moderate sized off white head. Aroma is on the sweet side with malt, grain, and caramel. Flavor is on the sweet side as well, with caramel, chocolate, nuts, and mild earthy hops. Very drinkable.

Bought this beer while in Bar Harbor on vacation. Pretty good beer. A nice hoppy ale with a reddish brown color.
