22oz bomber purchased at Florian’s Market in Auburn, Maine, split with BA CheckMate. Pours a murky brick red with less than a half inch of off-white head that dissipates quickly. Caramel, biscuit, with earthy hops and a slight fruitiness in the aroma, along with a touch of butterscotch. Butterscotch, nut, spice, slightly vinous, earthy and slightly herbal. Medium-bodied with light carbonation. Fairly quaffable overall, my favorite example of the style but a fairly decent beer.

Aroma is slightly malty, but not sweet. Flavor is slightly sour/vinous with mild hopiness. Some grainy malts. Finish is slightly malty and mildly sour at the end... smcolw (389), Wayland, Massachusetts, USA
| 2.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 2/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 12/20 | Oct 24, 2009 Quickly dying head that leaves no lace. Bright golden color and quite clear.
Mild aromas of pale grains. Crisp.
Crisp, almost a lager. The body is thin and the carbonation is high. The flavor is good for a mild, but I would not describe this as a dark one. Glouglouburp (2894), Montreal, Quebec, Canada
| 1.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 3/10 | 2/5 | 4/10 | 2/5 | 7/20 | Oct 18, 2009 In short: A bland and problematic watery toasted golden ale. To avoid.
How: Bottle 22oz. Consumed fresh a few weeks after I purchased it in Maine
The look: Partially cloudy golden blonde body topped by a very small off-white head
In long: Nose is toasted bread, roasted nuts and something I’d describe as mold/rot. Unsatisfying evasive body. Taste is like taking a bite of dry toasted bread while taking a big sip of water. Also present are some roasted nuts. An off-putting dry earth sensation that seems to be coming from the yeast. Some woody hops. The very active carbonation is almost welcomed since it crushes flavours that are most likely problematic. More problematic than bland. Better than a macro “amber” ale but not by much. I bought a bunch of Bar Harbor Cadillac Mountain Stout and in my rush to I did not realize that one of the bottle was actually Lighthouse. I hate that when I buy something by mistake that’s not just for me. Like when I come back home with extra-large condoms. Although that’s not by mistake, it’s because I find the casher cute. shadey (1501), Rochester, New York, USA

A light ale to be sure, but refreshing and clean. A touch toasty and easy to drink. I only wish more American breweries would embrace the style. alobar (1056), Harleysville, Pennsylvania, USA
