Earning 91 points in 1997, our Thunder Hole Ale won first place and its second Gold Medal at the World Beer Championships in Chicago. Locally brewed Thunder Hole Ale scored higher than Pete's Wicked, Newcastle Brown, Sam Adams, as well as many other Brown Ales from Maine and around the world. Had a first touch of it at their FREE tasting session on Knox Rd, Bar Harbor, ME. Light brown color with a tiny white head. Malty smell combined with herbal/ leaves aroma. Sweet palate. No bitterness at all. Not bad but not a amazing one.

Bottled. A brown beer with a beige head. The aroma has notes of malt and bread. The flavor is sweet with notes of malt, caramel, and bread, leading to a bitter finish.

Bomber from Whole Foods, Portland, ME, 4/19/15. Clear dark brown, large creamy tan head, good retention. Aroma of nuts, caramel, tart fruits. The taste is caramel, nuts. Thin bodied, low carbonation.

Decent brown pour w/ a thin tan head & some lacing. The aroma is quite nice - a bit of a hazlenut thing going on. The flavor doesn’t really live up to the aroma but this is a solid brown that I would drink again!

Bottle. Pours dark brown white head. Nose/taste of grape, oxidized fruit, dark fruit and cardboard caramel - medium body. Maybe the bottle was too old?

Malty nut aroma. Brown body with a reddish hue. No head. Sweet thick malt spice taste. Leaves a roasted spice malt in the finish. Hints of a dark raisin.

draft, meh. this one was too sweet and one-dimensional. Wasn’t the biggest fan. Caramel adn sticky sweet with a thin body.

Pours dark brown with a reddish glow in the light. A foamy, beige head fades to a ring in a minute or two. Moderate lacing. Nose is malty with hints of cola. Taste is sweet, but the hop comes through nicely. Medium body. Soft carbonation. Nice brown ale. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Big bottle from Mike. Aroma of chocolate bar and malts. Pours brown and gritty with a nice medium white head. Taste is chocolate, malt, malt, and more malt. This is a deliciously frothy malt bomb of a brown ale. Really enjoyed this one.
